Title: Mexican Horror Films (4) ! ! ! ! !
Post by: Scott on October 08, 2003, 10:35:48 PM
Last week I bought 4 Mexican Horror films dubbed by K Gordon Murray on DVD from Telefilms International for $3.99 at a local Boscov's store. If you find these DVD's snatch them up. They are great and the quality is good. When I bought them I didn't realize they were from Mexico. I now regard these as my greatest find ever.

SAMSON VS THE VAMPIRE WOMEN (1962) - Wow, this rates up there with all the greatest bad movies ever and I mean that in the best way (Plan 9, Beast of Yucca Flats, etc.) The film starts out with some great crusty Vampire women coming out of there coffins, Satan, and some male slaves in capes. I don't want to tell you much, but Samson is a masked professional wrestler who's only super power is his wrestling ability and he takes on about 15 Vampires. There is also these great 10 minute wrestling matches during the film. After the matches he goes out to help out a professor who contacts him by some great sci-fi gadget and Samson(Santo) drives in a cool sports covertable wearing his mask and cape. Do not miss this one. I was over joyed to find  this treasure.

THE BLOODY VAMPIRE (1962) - This is an excellent film at the beginning with the slow motion carriage ride through the fog driven by a hooded skeleton. Great stuff. The middle is very long with dialogue about vampirism. The end is great fun as the Vampire turns to a rabbit eared monkey bat. Many great images and lighting in this film. Very good.

THE VAMPIRES COFFIN (1957) - This is a film that starts out with a grave robbery and is abit of a comedy, but Hammer used some of the idea's latter in THE HORROR OF DRACULA a year later. One of the grave robbers is also a talented wax person with a basement full of wax figures. I guess a guy like that needed the extra money robbing graves for the local doctor. Not bad. It's worth the $3.99.

SAMSON AND THE WAX MUSEUM (1963) - Have seen it yet, but I'll let you know.

You will not be dissappointed Uncle Fester. The middle of BLOODY VAMPIRE is a little dry, but not bad. You'll love the beginning and end.

Any collection that has some of the El Santo/Samson wrestling horror flicks is worth getting. Haven't seen them in years, but I used to love when Commander USA used to show them on Saturday afternoons.

I've been reading more on CURSE OF THE DOLL PEOPLE. Searched all local stores for more copies.

That Brazilian COFFIN JOE film is tempting, but for $20+ plus bucks it won't be happening.
