Title: Scariest movie ever made?!?
Post by: G-man on October 20, 2003, 12:29:59 PM
Halloween is coming up faster than Pryor on fire and I wanted some input as to your opinions of the scariest movies know to man.....and a few to mice....
Now I do realize that different people have different phobias....thus are scared of different things....
I, for instance, have a deep rooted fear of sharks.... Don't bother.... I've seen them all...
My personal pick for the scariest movie is School's Out....
It's a German movie based on an urban legend.... No subtitles....It's in English...
The legend is about a man who hacked up some people at a high school with a pair of scissors.... But then I said BASED ON ... I never saw the ending coming...
And, as a direct result of watching this movie, I walked around for 3 days with my fists clenched, jumping at shadows, and triple checking my locks....

I would honestly say that my picks for the scariest movies ever made, include;          TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, THE ORIGINAL HAUNTING, EXORCIST, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES (SCARY HOW MUCH PROFANITY WAS USED EH?), AND MY FRIEND'S WEDDING VIDEO. THAT WAS REALLY FRIGHTENING.

Here are my picks:

Psycho (the best of all time)
Texas Chairnsaw Massacre (original, did I have to say original? ugh.)
Halloween (Micheal Myers)
Jaws (Different type of horror)
Poltergeist (I still think this is a good one)
Evil Dead II (If I had seen it when I was young)
Exorcist (heavy horror)
The Others (this might be a new classic)

THE EXORCIST is the scariest movie I have ever seen, hands down.

A few others that make my list are:

* THE OMEN
* NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
* INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (I like both the Kevin McCarthy version and the Donald Sutherland version . . . Abel Ferrara's BODY SNATCHERS was decent, but not as good as the other two).

I think that PSYCHO, HALLOWEEN and JAWS were all more suspenseful than they were scary. Thery are also among my favorite movies.

Alien.  I was probably about 14 when it came out.  Very tense and intense for me.
Also the ending of Carrie made me jump.

The original THE HAUNTING, with nary a monster onscreen, still scares the bejeezus outta me.
Howard Hawkes' THE THING--I've never been more scared by a walking vegetable.
THE WAR OF THE WORLDS

Well s**t... If we're doing movies from our childhoods, then JAWS.
I saw that movie in a drive-in. I still to this day can't swim in the ocean... and I live in NJ. Nothing to do in NJ, except go to the shore.
But, you all have to check out School's Out.
I did like some of your picks...
Alien, Child's Play, JAWS, Poltergeist......all good flicks
WTF about The Way We Were...

Actually, a scary movie that was made for television back in the 70s is DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. Another good TV movie is TRILOGY OF TERROR.
