Just saw this movie on Scream the other night, and was very surprised.
Not only was it even more warped than I had imagined, I had no idea it was Canadian. We visited Ottawa on our vacation in August, and I remember seeing some of the locations used in the movie. My wife and I actually went inside the cathedral seen at the beginning. We had dinner in the downtown market where Jesus does his song and dance number after arriving in town.
The other thing that surprised me was that it is a much more respectful portrayal of Jesus than I had expected. Kung fu, vampires and silliness aside, the movie doesn't really try to mock Jesus, and his message seems to be more or less intact. It was actually kind of clever the way they took the familiar Jesus, and gradually changed his appearance to their modern interpretation.
I'm going to show it to my wife, so I can hear a minister's take on it.
I received this DVD in the mail a few days ago.
Please see my thread titled "I'm counting the hours . . . " for further details.
My copy is on the way to my mailbox as we type, along with Wild Zero, Manos, The Hills Have Eyes, and The Eternal Evil of Asia. I can't wait.
