Bravo played DRESSED TO KILL (1980) last night . I remember liking it only up to the part where Angie Dickenson gets killed when I first seen it around 1981 on HBO's free monthy thing. Who can forget that shower/bedroom scene towards the beginning and the note she later discovers. The end has a real PSYCHO type ending. Micheal Caine is also in this one and Brian Depalma gives it a neat look. Well again I can only remember the beginning and end as I missed the middle yesterday.
I bought this DVD when it was released (and I also grabbed a copy of DePalma's BLOW OUT). Overall, I think that DRESSED TO KILL is a well-made thriller. It does suffer a bit from DePalma's over-blown camera moves, which often draw too much attention to themselves, and the ending isn't as much of a surprise as it should be (I believe that a lot of people probably figured it out earlier in the picture than DePalma intended . . . but that's okay).
This is actually one of my favorite De Palma flicks. Very good enjoyable movie. But why the HELL is that musium scene so long?
you know i've always thougth about renting this, however i've heard so many people slam it as being a "psycho rip-off." maybe someday though i'll pick it up, the video box art is horrible too.
"i've heard so many people slam it as being a 'psycho rip-off.'"
Many of DePalma's movies get knocked because critics always compare him to Hitchcock. He's not Hitchcock . . . he's DePalma. Sure he has borrowed (or stolen) many of Hitchcock's ideas . . . but what director HASN'T borrowed (or stolen) ideas at one time or another?
DRESSED TO KILL is a pretty good thriller. It's not a classic, but it IS pretty good. Definitely worth seeing.
Cool, thanks for the insight. I think critics in all their pretentiousness always overlook DePalma's Scarface, one of the most realistic and disturbing crime films ever.
