MATRIX: RELOADED: Well, I didn't see it in theaters, but watched the DVD tonight. First I'd like to say I liked the film. It seemed that the Matrix movie and characters have become abit like super heroes like Superman and Batman. I liked the original film and the idea of the matrix. I like the continuation of this type dialogue in Reloaded. The highway scene was incredible. Some of the other action was different but not great. I like the idea of the character with the keys amidst all that techology and the guy who controls the system at the end. Also the duplication of agent Smith after Neo talks with the Oracle in the park. The place called Zion and the underworld scenes were kinda dull even if necessary , but I like the movie overall and look forward to the next one Revolutions.
I didn't really like this when I saw it in the theater, but I bought the DVD anyway. I haven't watched it yet, but I hope to have time this weekend.
This falls under the "I already own Part I, so I must buy each and every sequel, even if I don't like them" category.
Yea, I don't like when they over do a good thing with sequels because it becomes like a TV series or something, but that highway scene was something else.
I liked the idea that ghosts and monsters were stray programs, not doing what they were supposed to do, and the introduction of other sentient programs that inhabited the Matrix. The revelation made to Neo near the end was also a nice twist.
I'm not a big fan of sequels, but the Matrix was at least designed to work as a trilogy. Still, Reloaded mostly seemed like a lot of loosely connected fights, and was very much a middle film in terms of it's contribution to the overall story.
Can't wait to see where it goes from here though.

they aren't doing the sequels just because the first movie was popular. This story was allways planned as a three part story. The middle section of any three act peice is always a little slower than the others, but Reloaded did more for plaot development than the first one did.

Similar to "Star Wars" in that Lucas had a trilogy in mind but had to make part one self-standing.

Like "The Empire Stikes Back" works to continue "Star Wars" and set up "..Jedi" but story wise isn't quite self sufficient
From what I loosely recall from "The Matrix Revisited", The Wachoski brothers gave the idea of the trilogy to Warner Brothers. The most recent film they did was BOUND, which had a budget of about $20 million. Now they were asking to make 3 movies, with the first one being in excess of $100 million.
Apparently the idea was to make the first movie a stand-alone so if it tanked, no trilogy. Folks kept trying to down the budget, but the brothers were firm that 100 million was the minimum to making the movie work.
it seems that in any trilogy, there is always one chapter that people find weak. Amazingly, when I ask my sci-fi friends which Star Wars they liked the most, almost always, the answer is The Empire Strikes Back. The rest will say Jedi and very few will say the original.
I liked the idea of a matrix sequel only because you love the characters and story so much you don't want it to end..but often sequels can be overkill for me and have a tendancy to try too hard at being cool and imitating what worked in the original.
not to mention how the characters turn into charicatures.
I may see the third matrix on a free weekend but i'm in no rush, i wasn't overly impressed by the sequel and i'm afraid it might rob what love i still have for the original. maybe it's just me
Empire Strikes Back is, storyline wise, the most consistent and solid. It has no over the top silliness, no whiny luke, and it's darker then the others. I think that is why it is generally peoples favorite.
I think Return of the Jedi is the weakest personally, but I really like em all.
