MANSTER (1960) - Good little B-movie. Man gets injection that caused him to transform into a monster. First and eye on the shoulder then a whole head. At the end the two heads split turning into to beings. One the original person and the other a gorilla man of sorts. The split happens with a tree set in between them. Then the star throws him into a volcano. The whole film seems to have been filmed in japan. All but three actors are American and the rest are Japanese. The scientist almost commits hare kari before the monster appears. He was distraught because he turned his wife into some kind of monster that he had to keep in a cage. Well, if you get to see this one you will like it.
i picked up manster on dvd for under 6 bucks. i like it too. especially the "splitting" scene.
don't you get the feeling Army of Darkness sorta have it an homage during the scene when ash's shoulder gets the eyeball?
Yea, kinda forgot about the scene in ARMY OF DARKNESS Mr. Henry.
THE MANSTER also had a feel to it, like THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE and HIDEOUS SUN DEMON. What I mean is that the film had a background of the bar and night club scene with women and alchohol. MANSTER actually had a hotbath scene.
I haven't seen the movie but I can't get it out of my head that the word "Manster" sounds like a flaming homosexual monster in drag.
Picture it with me....a huge party and who comes skipping in...say it in your best femme voice (kinda like Big Gay Al)..."Hi everyone! I'm the Manster and I just wanna eat you up! Ohhwee!"
HEHE!!! Again I couldn't help myself!
For me MANSTER initially brought images of half man - half hampster. Actually in the film MANSTER the title means half man - half monster.
It's a good film for your collection ASHTHECAT.
I may have that same dvd.
Good flick, with better acting then most B's.
It's a keeper.
This was a pretty rare film at one time like Hand of Death but I guess it's showing up on tv and I've seen the cheap dvd. Army of Darkness totally ripped that scene off obviously. The opening scene always has stayed with me.
I never thought of the word "Manster" like that- don't know where you're taking this, scary.
Just saw this film in one of those 50 movies for $15 packs. Better than I thought. I liked it so much that I wrote another one of my mini-review if anyone is interested.

Jeff
I actually got two copies of it on DVD. Got one out of a bargin bin for $1 a few years ago and got a second copy in a 50 movie pack just recently. It's a pretty bad film. It is one of those SciFi/Monster films back when science didn't require a purpose and cheesy looking monsters was the norm. It's fun to watch however.
I've got the Mill Creek boxed set with this in it -- I've been meaning to watch MANSTER, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
If people cuold avoid revealing the endings of movies I think that would be just fabulous

Okay, I'm gonna ruin the ending of one of three movies, but I'll be nice and let YOU pick the movie, Lester:
"The Crying Game"
"Citizen Kane"
"Night Of The Lepus"
If I don't get a response in 48 hours, I reveal the ending to all three. Do you really want that on your head?
God, don't ya just love thread terrorism?
No, seriously, I agree. At least post a spoiler warning, folks! These turkeys may be old, but not all of us have seen them. I however have seen this one when I was a little kid and it freaked me out. But then Spock freaked me out. These days, hominy freaks me out, so it's an on-going issue.
This movie was on TV quite frequently when I was a kid. I bought the $6 DVD a couple years ago, then I got the movie again in a Mill Creek 50 movie pack. A sleaze classic.
It says a lot about the nature of this board that people think MANSTER can be spoiled by revealing the ending.
Javakoala, do not by any means disclose the scecret of LEPUS. I haven't seen it yet! (Fire away on those other two).

So, you're saying that you don't constantly hope for some sort of surprise at SOME point in these movies? I never expect one, but I do hope for a nice turn of dialogue or some schlub getting whacked with the boom mike or the unexpected death of the entire cast (and sometimes, the crew, if I'm lucky).
You've never seen "Lepus"? Holy crap on a cracker, Batman! Well, I guess I won't tell you about the aliens that blow up the Earth...oops.

You git it! If I give you 10 karma, though, you have to give me 9 in change.
