Title: Top 10 Horror Deaths of All Time
Post by: Daniel Johnson on November 12, 2003, 12:16:40 AM
For a while now, I've been toying around with the idea of making a list of the top 10 deaths in horror movies of all kinds, ever. What Ihave come to realize (or rather admit) is that I have only seen asmall spectrum of horror movies that would contain such potential deaths, so does anyone have any suggestions?

The meat hook in TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. The shower scene in PSYCHO. The lone female swimmer being tugged then taken under in JAWS.

I think the Western genre can offer up its share of scenes

To go with Scott's nude swimmer in Jaws, I'd also think Quint's death in the same movie should have a place near the top.

The native getting stomped in King Kong was pretty cool.

Also - I always thought Private Vasquez's last stand in Aliens was pretty excellent.

Not certain I have the horror movie creds to say that these belong in the top ten, but I think they're worth considering.

The eyeball scene in ZOMBIE.
Good old Giovanni Lombardo Radice getting a drill through the head in CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD.
The same actor getting his brains scooped out in CANNIBAL FEROX.

Ending of Night of the Living Dead

*Spoiler*

Imagine making it through the night, after being attacked by zombies, only to be shot by some freaking idiot who doesn't even know what he's shooting at.

I'd vote for the entrail suffocating scene near the end of 'Re-Animator.'

For some reason, the icepick to the forehead scene and the spear through the people screwing scene in "Friday the 13th Part 2" always stand out for me.
They were the first two I thought of when I read this thread.

Yeah I was thinking of the doube impalement through the bed as well, what about maybe the triple decapatation in Jason Lives? I don't know I wouldn't want to crowd the list with Friday movies, but it may work. Also I think I might include Johnny Depp's death in the original NOES.

Take your pick of crazy stuff from Riki Oh, just about any of those would work.
Godzilla's demise in the 1954 original is pretty memorable.

Deer antler impalement from Silent Night, Deadly Night.

Man sucked into sink from The Blob(88).

Death by curling iron in the original SLEEPAWAY CAMP

Death by stereo in THE LOST BOYS

The "head rolling across the stage" in PROM NIGHT

The death of Michael Meyers' first sister in HALLOWEEN

Angie Dickenson's death in DRESSED TO KILL

Bathtub Boy (can't remember his name) from I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE

On the off chance you are going for real life horror movie deaths (like during filming), you could always go with Vic Morrow's death in THE TWILIGHT ZONE or Brandon Lee in THE CROW.

And that's my $0.02!

I agree with ONIONHEAD . . . John Cassevetes exploding at the end of THE FURY is a great horror death that most people forget about for some reason.

There's a movie called "Elf" about a santa elf that stabs a department store santa in the crotch until he dies.  It doesn't get any worse than that.

Maximum Overdrive had a couple of great ways to die: soda vending machine shoots a soda into some guys head,  a steam roller plows over a kid after he flips over the handle bars of his bicycle, and a little bit later in the film there is a woman in her under garments slumped out a window(wonder how she died).

The hair dryer attacked her - the cord is around her neck when they do the close-up.

How bout the burning of Edward Woodward in The Wicker Man, classic stuff, nicely lacking in glamour.

Paul Allen's axe-in-the-face, one of the funniest deaths ever committed to celluloid.

Corporal Bruce Campell running away from the werewolves in Dog Soldiers, only to impale himself on a tree branch. Its only a splinter!

How about the girl in the movie Hitcher being pulled apart by  a truck, you don't see it but I know I was sick when that scene was over.
