Title: Somewhat movie related question
Post by: Eirik on November 13, 2003, 02:32:18 PM
While raiding my niece's Halloween candy, I discovered a box of "Milk Duds Chocolate Covered Caramels."  They were basically slightly larger versions of Sugar Babies.

I remember getting Milk Duds in movie theaters a few times as a kid.  Am I nuts or didn't Milk Duds used to be chocolate-covered malt balls - as opposed to caramels?

You're thinking of Whoppers.
They were and still are the chocolate covered milk balls.

I love milk duds - it's my ultimate movie-going experience. That and the way they used to make popcorn before the whole peanut oil fiasco. If i'm trying to be good I get sour patch (since milk duds has fat). Oddly milk duds aren't easy to find..I mean grocery stores here don't carry them but they carry the whoppers in the giant milk cartons (great concept actually)
Usually I can find milk duds at walgreens or eckerd.

Btw this is even further off topic but this is a FANTASTIC SITE to find all those candy's and food you grew up on as a kid but cannot find them because they are sold regionally. They also have an updated list of candy/foods that are no longer made. They're pretty good about response - I inquired about those frozen mortons donuts I used to bake in the oven that were so good and they replied back really quickly saying they researched it and found they were no longer made.

Milk Duds are chocolate covered caramels.

They get my vote for induction into the "Movie Theater Candy Hall of Fame" in the "Sticks to Your Teeth" category.  Jujy-Fruits also belong in this category.

Why can't manufacturer's make their candy in easy to open bags? I hate hearing people struggling to pry and rip that bag open making a racket..only to have the skittles spray all over the floor and slowly roll their way to the front. They make those things BEYOND childproof to open. How hard can it be to add the easy to open feature with "rip here"

And as much as I love nacho's those things should be banned in theaters - nothing nauseates me more than smelling someone chewing that stuff with jalopeno breath. Our theater sells ice cream..nobody buys that stuff because the room is too cold! I wish they sold soft pretzels.
