Title: favorite one-liner movies?
Post by: Neon Noodle on November 14, 2003, 08:22:39 PM
I just thought of this thread while I was doing my new sig.

Governor Schwarzenegger must be the King of one-liners, with movies like running man, predator, and the terminator.

I'd have to say my fave was the last boy scout - it was like the whole movie was a constant barrage of one liners!

how about yours?

Couple more but I'm in a hurry, can't type them all.

Gotta be a Bond film, preferably a Sean Connery one. I'll say "Goldfinger", just since I'm too lazy to compare quotes on IMDB right now.

Not just one liners exactly, but The Last Boyscout.

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0102266/quotes

"Officer: Good morning gentlemen. Is there a problem?
Milo: Yes, officer. As a matter of fact there is a problem. Apparently there are too many bullets in this gun.  [shoots him]

Here are a few memorable one-liners that come to mind:

DEATH WISH II:  "Do you believe in Jesus?  You're going to meet him."

SUDDEN IMPACT (a bad movie, but a memorable line):  "Go ahead.  Make my day."

One of the Bond movies (I can't remember which one):  "He's a cunning-linguist."

THE WARRIORS:  "I'll shove this bat up your @$$ and turn you into a popsicle."

Mostly when I think of Arnold movies and one-liners I think that they are pretty silly.

The one-liners I like are usually  not really one-liners but good comebacks from setup lines

From "Time Bandits"
Kevin: You mean God?
Randall: We don't know him that well, we only work for him

From  Buckaroo Banzai
"Where are we going?"
"Planet Ten"
"When are we going?"
"Real soon!"

Stuff like that...

From the earlier Dirty Harry:
"Do you feel lucky, punk?  Well, do you?"

Chuck Norris in Invasion USA  (why hasn't this movie been included on this site???)--"When I want your opinion I'll beat it out of you."  And who can forget "You come back in here, I'll hit you with so many rights you'll beg for a left."

Didn't like Indianna Jones after the first movie, but I really liked this line from the third one where Jones discovers he's up against the Nazis again...

"Nazis!  I hate these guys."

And from The Blues Brothers:
"I hate Illinois Nazis"

Best line from that movie:
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses."

It's not a bad movie, but it is a cult one: Withnail and I.  Every scene has a killer one-liner in it, e.g. "We've come on holiday - by mistake!"
"We want the finest wines known to humanity and we want them NOW!"
"If you hit me it's murder.  I have a heart condition."
"A coward you are, Withnail; an expert on bulls you are not!"
"My heart's going like a f***ed-up clock!"
"My thumbs have gone weird!"
etc., etc.  Perhaps a bit too British for all you Americans.

What about Cambell in Army of Darkness the whole movie was one-liners and don't forget some spoofs like Hot Shots or Airplane!. The last two Pixar movies and Ice Age has some too.

Ryan-"What are you reading?"
Sheen-"Great Expectations"
Ryan-"Is It any good?"
Sheen-"Not What I hope for"

"Blazing Saddles" is full of great one liners, as are the best Marx Brothers movies like "Duck Soup" and "A Night At The Opera". Same thing for "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead"

A favorite line from "Fort Apache, The Bronx":
"You try it again and I'll turn your head like a godamn doorknob!"

I could quote from "Slapshot" all day long but I'll just go with a few favorites:
"Never play 'Lady of Spain' again!"

" I thought they banned him for life."

"The air it make me sick, make me - Blaaaaggh!"
"Yeah, well, you're a goalie, you're supposed to be like that."

"These guys are folk heroes."
"They're criminals."
"Well, most folk heroes started out as criminals."

"Morris, you make me sick when you speak."

"They're gonna put you in the cell with Ogelthorpe."

"You won. Here's your trophy, now get out of here, ya bum."

"Hi, Ogie. Buy ya a soda after the game?"

"Somebody's gonna kill you, ya dumb son of a b***h, but it's not gonna be me!"

"Look at that! You can't see that, I'm on radio!"

"Dave wouldn't take it! Dave's a killer!"
"Dave's a mess."
"Well, Dave's out. Who's gonna take his place?"
"Is the answer Jesus?"
