DRACULA (1973) - Someone from work let me borrow this made for TV Dracula film starring Jack Palance as one of the greatest vampires ever on screen in my opinion. What a great fun and a great look to this Dracula entry. As I watched it I wondered why I haven't heard or seen this film before. Dracula (Palance) gets quite emotional as he looses his love interest. This is a must see for Dracula fans and Jack Palance fans. I would love to own a copy of this film.
The director of DRACULA Curtis of DARK SHADOWS fame. He also made SCREAM OF THE WOLF in 1974.
The movie is also written by the great Richard Matherson, who, with Dan Curtis, also made The Night Stalker, one of the best vampire movies ever made.
(It might be fun for someone to compare this Dracula with Coppola's simular atrocity, Bram Stroker's Dracula . Y'know, to show just how original the Coppola film is.)
By the by, Scott, the IMdb sez the movie is out tape and DVD.
Palance was great in this! He brought something new to the character. I saw it on TV years ago and could not believe it was NOT 'just another vampire flick'. I really enjoyed it and I agree - one of the best acting performances as Dracula, ever.
I remember watching this as a little kid really late one night staying at my grandparent's house. Even as a young'un I recognized Palance from Ripley's reruns on the SciFi Channel. And yes, this movie rocks the hizzouse.
I apologize for the last sentence. But the movie still rules.
Brother R
I'm reading the original "Dracula" by Bram Stoker and it's kinda unusual in that it's told as a series of diary entries and letters by the participants in the story, so the story unfolds in a certain way taht's pretty interesting.
It's hard not to guess or second-guess what's going on because of the whole Vampire mythos that's been part of our culture in the time since he wrote the book and to really just let the events unfold as if you don't already know what vamoires are
Palance is one of my favorite actors. His turn as the lead in the 1968 TV version of "Dr Jekyl and Mr. Hyde"--another Dan Curtis production-- is in many reviewers opinion among the best ever. If his role in Batman had been bigger I think he would have stolen the show.
I'll keep my eye out for "Dr Jekyl and Mr. Hyde" Onlionhead.
And I agree that this is one of the Dracula films ever made.
I remember watching this movie on TV a few times when I was a kid. I probably haven't seen it since the mid 1970s, but I'm sure I'll eventually get around to seeing it again.
Can I get a copy of this anywhere??????????? I thought it was one of the best Dracula movies too!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks-
