ok, so i'm a little frustrated. Everytime I come up with a movie i want for myself or to give as a gift it's not available. "Creature from the black lagoon" no longer sold retail, I can only find copies floating around ebay or second-hand. Now i've been waiting for "Bringing up baby" to hit DVD..which it has not. But i got this website below which apparently distributes titles imported from taiwan. Why would this and other highly popular classic titles have a dvd release elsewhere but here? Does anyone know about this site?
eFilmic.com
Susan - You should also check out Video Mayhem's website. They also specialize in imports and I have ordered 2 movies from them. They are a little slow (it took over 2 weeks for my movies to arrive), but they have a lot of foreign action/horror/adult movies, as well as American movies that have been released overseas, but not in the U.S.
By the way . . . I have CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON on DVD. I bought it in the Universal Monsters boxed set. Haven't watched it yet, though . . .
I just don't get why some movies aren't released in the US but are among the top ranked films of all time. Will these DVD's play properly? I'm scared of suddenly having japanese dubbing or it doesn't work in my player.
I was going to give the creature from the black lagoon as a gift, maybe I can wait for the next re-release, i noticd alot of people are pretty bold selling it on amazon starting at $60-something. I haven't heard of video mayhem, i'll check em out

Video Mayhem's website sells all sorts of DVDs with various regional codings, some are PAL, some are NTSC, some are dubbed or subtitled, some are not. You have to read the descriptions carefully.
If you stick with a Region 1, NTSC standard DVD, you should be okay. Many DVD players can play DVDs from all regions. If you aren't sure about yours, stick to Region 1.
Every bad movie fan should check out Video Mayhem's website. They have some WILD imports . . . extreme gore, strange comedy, intense "shoot 'em ups," etc. I have only bought 2 DVDs from them, but I'll probably buy more.
Be aware that they can sometimes be expensive because they are imports. A lot of the DVDs on Video Mayhem's website cost $24.95 or more (but there are also quite a few for around $15.00).
By the way, the web address is:

I've been to eFilmic.com and found all the movies I couldn't find here in the U.S. I do agree that it's unfair that the U.S. haven't released popular films on DVD but the only place that I found them were on eFilmic.com. I especially love the Marx Brothers DVDs and African Queen. I also checked out Video Mayhem but it's a bit hard to navigate.
