Again I'm referring to any ship that flies in a movie whether it be in space or in the air.
My vote for the ALL TIME COOLEST LOOKING SHIP AWARD in a movie goes to the U.S.S. Reliant in "Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Kahn".
Now THAT was & IS the coolest looking starship! (in my opinion of course!)
"Aft torpedoes...FIRE!!!"
(yes...I'm a Trek geek...sorry I can't help it.)
Anyway....What's your vote for the coolest looking ship?

The gunstar in The Last Starfighter.
The X-Wing in the Star Wars movies.
The derelict ship in Alien.
FLASH GORDONS'S ship in the original serials. Also Commander Cody's ship in the serial RADAR MEN FROM THE MOON. They are kinda the same.
How about those box shapes shuttles in STARSHIP TROOPERS.
Films from the 50's also space ships that have very unrealistic landing methods, but they looks cool.
Oh, Bobo Fett's craft is cool.
It may not be the coolest looking, but my vote for coolest overall ship would be the USS Defiant from ST:DS9. The pulse phasers, the quantum torpedoes, a cloaking device, and the fact that it has grossly overpowered engines for a craft its size. The only Star Trek ship built for the single purpose of kicking ass.
I definitely agree with the Reliant. Very fortunate that the design drawing got approved upside down by mistake.
I love the ships from the Star Wars movies - the original three anyway. Beautifully detailed model work, and the big ones look so convincingly huge and formidable.
The ships from Star Blazers are among the coolest, especially some of the Earth ships that sprang the Yamato design, such as the Andromeda. The Yamato is pretty cool as well, as are some of the Gamilon ships (like the multi-decked carriers) and ships of the Comet Empire.
Borg ship from TNG--don't mess with the collective.
Borg ship from TNG--don't mess with the collective. tt
HELMET Yes, we're gonna have to go right to ludicrous
speed.
ALL gasp.
SANDURZ (gasp) Ludicrous speed? Sir, we've never
gone that fast before. I don't know if this ship can take it.
HELMET What's the matter, Colonel Sandurz, chicken?
SANDURZ (in high pitch) Prepare ship, (back to
normal) prepare ship for ludicrous speed. Fasten all seat belts, seal all
entrances and exits, close all shops in the mall, cancel the 3-ring circus,
secure all animals in the zoo....

Hehe!
Good one Susan.
Didn't that insanely long ship have a giant bumper sticker on the back of it?
What did it say?
Long ship, short sticker - "We brake for Nobody"
(The winnie had: "I love Uranus")
>prepare ship for ludicrous speed.
"They've gone to plaid!"
Another couple of ships I've always liked;
The eagles from Space 1999.
The vipers from Battlestar Galactica.
Gene Rodenberry's Andromeda
Babylon 5 - Whitestar
Dr Who - Tardis
Flight of the Navigator Ship
Stargate SG-1: Prometheus
Star Wars - Millenium Falcon (Every guy's dream ship)
And you can't forget, RED DWARF
#1 best goddamn ship of all time ever in the whole of today, the TARDIS. Can't mess with a dimensionally transcendental indestructible telephone booth capable of time travel.
Runners up: Star Destroyers, the Death Star, and the (presumably, what other kinds of ships would they have?) warship in the beginning of Predator.
Brother R
i guess i'll venture out alone on this one, but the fighter ships in the *cough* lost in space *choke* movie were pretty cool.
i also didn't mind the ones in wing commander either.
The Vorlon ships in Babylon 5.
Ha! Despite Brother Ragnarok's eminently welcome praise for the TARDIS, I have to go for two from 2001: the Discovery, because it gives an impression of awesome size (and was based on a dinosaur skeleton, IIRC) and glacial progress, and the PanAm Shuttle, because it's just so damn balletic in the approach to the Space Station.
Also, that Naboo Royal Family Gadabout in Star Wars 4. Obviously based on the SR71 Blackbird, but damn! does it look fast!
I will second Jamtoy's vote for the Millennium Falcon, that's a great lil' ship and probably my all-time favorite just cuz it keeps breaking down. I also really liked the massive invading ships from ID4., along with the fighters themselves. The ship that crash-lands at the beginning of Pitch Black isn't particularly noteworthy (although I do think they did a good job on it) but the crash sequence itself is one of the best I've seen. How about the pyramid-shaped vessel from Stargate? You gotta hand that one some originality points, at least.
And call me a purist, but I love the original Enterprise. I even have a cut-away poster of it on my wall. No, not the VERY original Enterprise, but the Enterprise D. I'm not THAT much of a purist, jeez.
The Event Horizon was pretty cool looking
Damn Ash... that's an excellent selection. That would have been my choice. ; )
I also really dig the Cylon Raiders from Battle Star Galactica.
Oh yeah.. I still have a model of the Reliant that I haven't built yet. I guess I'll wait for when I have the time to do it. : ( So little time...
I third the Falcon - It actually became a character in its own right, with a history, idiosyncracies and a heroism of its own... and the actors conveyed a real affection for it too. Plus it had that cool chessboard, secret compartments, and the whole thing was kept about as neat as the average 13-year old's room. I guarantee the set designer for that movie had kids.
Lots of great ships mentioned in this thread - here's one nobody thought of (coming at the question from a different direction): The African Queen. Like the Falcon, she had a personality.
Plus it had that cool chessboard, secret compartments,
Dice hanging from the front windshield...
I also liked Costner's catermaran from "Water World" I loved all the autmated liitle stuff he had by pulling ropes and kicking levers and stuff
