Title: Christmas DVD suggestions
Post by: Tork on November 27, 2003, 04:58:00 AM
What type of christmas dvds (anything good released recently) would you recommand to someone who likes late 70s-mid 80s horror movies? And someone who likes really surreal/f**ked-up comedys.

The Dark Backward is one of my favorite surreal oddities, with Judd Nelson growing a third arm and becoming a comedic success by way of Wayne Newton.

Forgive me for being so cliched but Silent Night-Deadly Night is definitely in the holliday spirit!

Some of those wacked out 1960s claymation specials are pretty surreal and funny if you like surreal comedies.
 Examples:

Santa Claus is Coming to Town: The famous Heatmeiser-Coldmeiser one.

Easter special whose title I forget:  The Easter Bunny misses Easter must travel through the year and hand out his eggs before the next Easter arrives.  The evil easter bunny (yeah, you read that right) had a Halloween witch turn the bunny's eggs green so nobody would want them... but then he wound up on St. Patrick's Day and they went like hotcakes.

Baby New Year (I forget the title):  A baby, a caveman, a knight, and Benjamin Franklin match wits with a gigantic evil vulture.

Silent Night, Deadly Night #'s 1,2, and 4
Christmas Evil
Don't Open Till Christmas (actually, that might not be on DVD yet)
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
Santa Claus (the one directed by the guy who did all the Santo movies....it was on MST3K and kicks major ass)
Silent Night, Bloody Night

I just found an out of print copy of "Godzilla vs Smog Monster" on dvd- that's going to my husband for christmas.

I don't think it counts as horror, but it's pretty cool!

since silent night deadly night 1 and 2 are combined on DVD now, this is the best buy - Deck the halls with chopped up bodies!

What about Black Christmas? It's by the same guy that did a Christmas Story (later on) and Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things, and those awful Porky's movies, Bob Clark.
