Post by: Scott on December 03, 2003, 12:18:43 AM
Well, it's hard to find good movies that one hasn't seen. Here is a list of films I hope to see one day without paying $10 or more.

Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter
Alucarda
The Hired Hand
Coffin Joe
Vampyres
El Topo
The Holy Mountain
Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Mummy

Jess Franco Films
Russ Meyer Films
Jean Rollin Films

Philippine Horror
Mexican Horror
Spanish Horror
Italian Horror
Santo Films

Movies I'd like to see again someday. It's been a long time.

My Name is Nobody
The Story of "O"
The Flesh Eaters
50's Horror/SciFi (some I vaguely remember)

A Bullet for the general was pretty good.  I was totally shocked by the ending though, not exactly a happy ending.
How about Hang 'em High, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
The Mechanic was pretty good.  It's not a spaghetti western but it's a good action movie.   The White Buffalo was a good one too

I have Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter, but I haven't watched it yet.
Alucarda is on my "to buy" list.
I have 2 Coffin Joe movies.  They are worth paying more than $10 to see.

Jess Franco Films - I have EXORCISM.  It is terrible, but I'm glad I own it.
Russ Meyer Films - I have 3 on order.
Jean Rollin Films - I have several.  There isn't really anything special about them, but I'm glad I own them.

Spanish Horror and Italian Horror - I own many.  I love horror movies from these countries.

Good luck in your quest!

"Fatal Bet"

It's a bad asian film that my dad ( a police officer ) had a small role in.  It was filmed here in Tahoe and they needed a cop  for this scene:

A body washes up on the shore of Lake Tahoe.  My dad and some fellow officers are called out to the scene to investigate.  My dad arrives, turns the body over, and says:

"It's an asian. Call the coroner."

End of scene.

EXORCISM, not sure but I think it has  the title of LISA AND THE DEVIL. If it is the same film then your right it's not that good.

HANG EM HIGH is a good one and of course THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY is one of the  greatest films ever. Sergio Leone and Ennio Maricone made great films together Cricket21a. Also ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, FISTFULL OF DYNAMITE, and MY NAME IS NOBODY are great ones with Leone's involvement. Alot of good Westerns. Great genre.

ALUCARDA is great.

EL TOPO and THE HOLY MOUNTAIN are the types of movies that could only be made at that time....you'll never see anything like that again.

Actually, it's not the same movie.  LISA AND THE DEVIL is a fairly boring Mario Bava film starring Elke Sommer and Telly Savalas.  When THE EXORCIST came out, they filmed new scenes of Elke Sommer, possessed by the Devil, in a hospital talking to a priest.  She swears a lot and vomits frogs.  They inserted these scenes into LISA AND THE DEVIL and changed the title to THE HOUSE OF EXORCISM.  I have a DVD that has LISA AND THE DEVIL on one side and THE HOUSE OF EXORCISM on the other side.

EXORCISM is a Jesse Franco film that is REALLY bad.  It was also released under the title DEMONIAC.  The DVD has a reversible cover insert with a picture on each side.  You can decide which cover you want to display and insert it into the sleeve on the front of the DVD case.

I got "Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter" for $5.96 at Wally World back during Halloween time.

Good luck finding Russ Meyer flicks cheap. Doesn't Meyer have a company that just sells his old films that he owns the rights to at very inflated prices? Most of his used to sell on VHS in the Critics Choice Home Video catalog for around $59.95 each when the average price for for most stuff in there was $19.95 - $29.95.

I ordered 3 Russ Meyer DVDs from Deep Discount DVD.  I think they are around $24 - $27 each.  You'll probably be able to buy them for under $10 in about 6 months.

I also want to add RIKI OH: THE STORY OF RICKY to my list of obscure films.

Thanks for the info Burgomaster on EXORCISM.

JohnL I'm a big Brando fan and NIGHTCOMERS, CANDY, and NIGHT OF THE FOLLOWING DAY are the only Brando films I haven't seen yet of his.
