Title: Eccentric DVD Purchases
Post by: Daniel Johnson on December 09, 2003, 08:16:15 PM
Okay so I just watched Alien for the second time after not seeing it since I was in around first grade when I also saw Aliens and Alien 3. Later on I saw Alien Resurrection when it was in theatres. Would buying the Alien Quadrilogy set along with IT-THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE strike anyone else as eccentric since it is about an $80+ purchase combined? And has anyone else been in a similar predicament?

Nope.  It sounds like my average Saturday at Best Buy.

Woo Hooo........Don't forget SHIVERS Danielmaster. That is the movie they got the alien popping out of the stomach scene. Have you seen SHIVERS (1975)? I liked it a lot. It's a David Cronenberg film.

Speaking of Cronenberg I've been reading good things about THE BROOD. Anyone here see it and like it?

Shivers sounds fun since I think I'm going to turn into an Alien's freak anyways.

I bought the Alien Quadrilogy and I would say its pretty worth it. Theres lots of stuff about the making of the movies.

I bought the DVD when it was released (a good deal, under $10 if I remember correctly).  It has its good points and its bad points.  The whole premise is that people can turn their inner rage into physical manifestations (like blemishes on their skin).  Samantha Eggar takes this to the extreme by giving birth to mutant kids as a manifestation of her inner rage.  If you can believe this for 90 minutes, you will like the movie.  Otherwise, you will think it's dumb.  It does have a few unsettling moments, but I wouldn't call it "scary."  I'd say it's interesting and a little disturbing at times, but definitely not scary.  Oliver Reed is pretty good as the doctor who coins the phrase "the shape of rage."

Overall: every Cronenberg fan should see it . . . and it's worth $10.

No, if you can afford it... buy it. Life is too short not to enjoy what it has to offer. : )
