Title: Hot Rod Girl (1956)
Post by: Scott on December 10, 2003, 01:12:19 AM
HOT ROD GIRL (1956) - Not quite sure why they called this one HOT ROD GIRL because the only show the lead female driving a car in one race right at the beginning. Besides that this is a neat jazzy beat generation film or JD film. The film felt a bit like a TV film and sure enough I found that the director Leslie H. Martinson made TV series for 3 decades. Watching these youths you get frustrated with them which is a plus for the film. It keeps your interest with the whole 50's scene. The film also had Frank Gorshin of Batman's Riddle fame. This was his second film and he has a big scene were he plays auto chicken with another dragster. Check this one out.

I picked this one up on DVD a few years ago for a couple of dollars.  It is still sitting on my DVD rack, unopened.  I really need to watch that sometime.

Yea, same thing here. I've had it for more than a year+ and put it in for a change of pace. I bought it around the time I bought my DVD player. I liked it. Worth a look.

Yeah I own this film on VHS, but my copy is called Drag Strip Girl. A typical low budget AIP quicky from the fifties.

Heck I even have an original Drag Strip Girl day bill tucked away someone too. You gotta love those AIP marketing men, "yeah lets see how many different titles we can release each film with!"

I'm a big fan of JD movies, but I have never seen this one.  My favorites include:

* BLACKBOARD JUNGLE
* GIRL GANG
* ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES
* THE VIOLENT YEARS
* THE DELICATE DELINQUENT (yes, the Jerry Lewis movie!)
* REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE
* WEST SIDE STORY (back to the Romeo and Juliet plot again!)

Some of these are cheapo-cheeso classics, while some are actually damned good movies.

SWV just released a great triple-feature JD disk:  High School Big Shot, High School Caesar, and Date Bait.

All 3 are great fun but be warned:  High School Caesar is missing the great them song (available on the otherwise crappy Rhino VHS EP version).

It's not a "them song" it's a theme song.

Sheesh.  And as a word processor, I type for a living!

Be afraid....
