Title: George Romero's Next Film
Post by: Mr_Vindictive on December 10, 2003, 09:11:22 AM
George A. is back in the scene with a new zombie film.  Twilight of the Dead possibly?  Dead Reckoning possibly?

But no, we are not getting a new addition to the Living Dead series.  Instead we are getting a film called 'Diamond Dead'.  Sounds too upbeat for me.  Anyway, here's the synopsis:

"Aria De Winter has been enlisted by Death himself to kill 365 people in one year. Hard task? Well, it helps when Aria is planning an historic concert for the Diamond Dead, the world’s most famous underground rock band. It also helps that she’s the ex-girlfriend of the lead singer of the band. It helps even more that the band members have been dead for over a year."

From what I've heard, this is going to be more of a comic film than a true out and out horror flick.  As for casting, Romero is currently considering the following:

Carmen Electra, Carrie-Ann Moss, Gwen Stefani, Colin Farrel, Jamie Kennedy, and Jason Lee

I would seriously cut all of these out except for Lee, that dude is great in anything that he does.  Anyway, Romero currently has a site up for the upcoming flick.

I'm not sure if I'm excited about this project or not.

I remember hearing a rumour that Romero got yanked from the Resident Evil project. That is so lame! He could have made that terd into a way better movie. Thanks for the info though.

I have been routinely disappointed by Romero for many years.  I'll stick with stuff like NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, MARTIN, and DAWN OF THE DEAD, thank you.

Errrrrrrrr yaa.So far from what you just wrote, it sounds like its going to suck, not to mention it going to have horrible cast, if that is the cast they are going ot put in it.

I've always liked Martin a lot also. I've heard a lot of Romero fans criticize it, but even though the film's editing isn't as tight as a modern film I think it's brooding and eccentricness is timeless.

Martin was one I used to like when I saw it in my teens, but I rented it recently and couldn't get through it.   But that's okay, since I also saw Knightriders recently and liked it enough to consider it one of his best films.

But in general I agree with Burgormaster, and don't really care if he makes any more movies at all.  DAY OF THE DEAD was such a disappointment that I'm not really that interested to see what he'd do with any more Dead films.

Oh, yeah . . . KNIGHTRIDERS.  That movie actually put me to sleep the first time I saw it on cable many years ago.  But I bought the DVD and I really like it now.

As for DAY OF THE DEAD, I didn't like that one either the first few times I saw it.  But I bought the DVD.  I can't really say that it's one of my favorites now, but I guess I like it a little more than I used to.

You have to consider that Day of the dead wasn't all Romero's fault.  He wanted it to be the grand finale for the Dead series.  It was supposed to be a big budget horror masterpiece.

But, Romero was only funded with a fraction of what he expected.  He knew that he would never get another Dead film made if he didn't jump at the chance.

Which he did..........

Strange, Day of the Dead I always thought was his best- well to me at least.

As for his new so called film it sounds like a joke to me, Hard Rock Zombies II? I think so...

I've read the original script he had for DAY, and I don't think it would have been much better.  It sounded a little silly to me, trying to turn it into some sort of action-adventure.

I like the beginning and ending of DAY, but most of it is like watching paint dry.
