What are folks' favorite Christmas movies?
Mine are:
A Christmas Carol -- the one with George C. Scott as Scrooge. Normally I hate Dickens, he's too wordy (he did get paid by the word) and trite. I don't eve like the Christmas Carol's story, but Scott's performance is just magnificant.
The Lion in Winter -- not strictly a movie about Christmas, but set at Christmas time. All the scheming & backstabbing never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
Santa Claus vs. the Martians. Gloriously bad.
This is going to sound stupid, but I love the hell out of "It's a Wonderful Life". I don't care how many times they show it. Jimmy Stewart rules.

I wish I could say IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, but one Christmas about 10 years ago, you could turn on your television at any time of the day or night between Thanksgiving and New Years and you would find at least 1 channel that was showing this movie. Ted Turner alone must have shown it at least 20 times. You could watch it in black & white or colorized. I got so sick and tired of it that I haven't been able to watch it again. I hope some day I get over this, because it's a really good movie.
I like A Nightmare Before Christmas, but only really because it's a nutty Tim Burton film, not really because of the Christmas spirit that is bottled up inside me.
I like A CHRISTMAS STORY and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.
I've never even seen MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET. Why I don't really know...I guess I was always watching those other two movies instead.
I guess mine would be A Christmas Story.

I remember when I was around the age of 5 I watched It's A Wonderful Life on tv. Now i'm 23, and for some reason I can never forget the emotional impact this movie had on me at that age. It's amazing how films can effect you that much. It's been so long since I've seen it though. Maybe I should rent it sometime.
I'm a Bill Murray fan, so Scrooged is a favorite.
But A Christmas Story always makes it feel like Christmas, especially when it's on for 24 hours in a row on TNT.
And Christmas Vacation has some great lines. . the whole department store scene at the underwear counter is priceless.

I was just waiting for someone to say it! good call, gotta love the cheesy song in the middle of it too.
Jimmy Stewart is the stuff. He never fails to bring a smile to my face when It's A Wonderful Life comes on. Gotta love the fact that his cop and cab driver friends were named Ernie and Bert.
SInce I like musicals too, Scrooge is a favorite of mine. Merry Christmas Charlie Brown, and all the other cheesy animated films are great too. Funny to think they've been around for so long, but hearing Berl Ives sing something like "Rudolph" or "Silver and Gold" is pretty soothing this time of year.
I also love the FreezeMiser/HeatMiser songs.
