Well, I finally got back online.
I've moved up to Des Moines and I finally got phone connection today so I'm back online for the first time in weeks
Now I have a *lot* of messages to get caught up on
BTW, Andrew, I've tried to get my passwords to login as "FearlessFreep" and "Fearless Freep" I created the accounts awhile ago but the "mail new password" option for accounts hasn't worked for me so I haven't had a chance to login properly. My email addresses are joconnor@cybermesa.com and jayoconnor@earthlink.net for those accounts
Welcome to Des Moines Mr. Freep,
If you are looking for any decent video stores check out "video warehouse" on Merle Hay road. It is located between Hickman and Franklin Streets. It claims to have the most videos in Iowa. It has its own Oscar room and a nice room of just foreign films. The sci fi selection is pretty good, but their comedy section is probably the most extensive I have ever seen.
If you like Blues music, there is supposed to be a really good blues bar called "blues on grand." It is pretty close to the Downtown area, on Grand avenue of course.
I'll shut up before I sound much more like a tour guide.
Thanks, I could use a tour guide.
I already have an account with MovieGallery as they seem to have more than Blockbuster. Hollywood Video's pretty decent where I live so I'll try them out. Thanks for the pointer to video warehouse
I noticed the blues place driving around...gonna have to check them out. I like live Blues and Jazz
Always glad to see Fearless Freep on the board. From New Mexico to Iowa. Hoping to move out West some time in the next 15 years. Sooner if possible.
From New Mexico to Iowa
Talk abuot a shock...the temperature drop alone nearly killed me
Iowa is the midwest, but I'd still like to see it. The Colts Drum and Bugle Corps is from Debuque Iowa. If you ever get a chance to attend a show you won't be dissappointed. The tour in June and July with DCI. (dci.org)
New Mexico looks awesome. They filmed THE MISSING there.
New Mexico looks awesome. They filmed THE MISSING there.
Also parts of "Young Guns"...My wife's art teacher in high school was an extra. There's a fairly decent film industry there. I would think that "Truth Or Consequence, Mew Mexico" was shot there. I'll have to watch it again, it makes me homesick :)
Just realized I have a lot of review reading to catch up on..Just read Nathan's last three weeks of reviews...now onto Dante's Inferno...
we have a video wharehouse where I live also, but it's not anywhere near the quality of the one you're describing "B." Plus all the empoyees there are a bunch of kids that have absolutely no customer service skills (and I mean NONE), which baffles me that a business owner would let them run it like that!
Yeah, I am not sure if this one is part of a chain or not. It is definitely not a regular 'big box' chain store because it is an older building with lots of side rooms. There are also mirrors on lots of the walls so it makes the place seem really big.
Overall I just like it because the owner tries to make interesting groups of movies. I bet there are at least 25 different 'mini-walls' dedicated to its own actor. There is also the aforementioned Oscar room (with aesthetics making it look like an award ceremony), Foreign films room, classic comedy room, tv-movie room, wall of war films, etc.
It is a pretty good store but I have been p**sed at it lately. They used to have a deal where you could get 3 (non-new release) movies for 3 days for $3. But now it costs $4.50. I know that is still cheap, but damnit I have a wife and a greyhound to feed!
Movie Gallery does 2 movies for 7 days for $1.50, if you rent them on Tuesday night. (not new releases)
I got a card for $27 in movies for $19 bucks when I joined so I'm set for awhile :)
So how do you like Iowa?
Freezing your ass off yet?
So am I.
Ha ha... suckers.
Did you really think you could escape me?
"BATEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!"
Freezing your ass off yet?
Last week I remembered why I live in a desert
The Skyway is pretty impressive but other than that...I'm ready to go home now :)
