Title: Plan 9 From Outer Space
Post by: Evil Matt on December 28, 2003, 12:54:10 AM
Picked this up on DVD today, watched it for the first time.  Can ANYONE please tell me how something could be so very bad on every conceivable level?  I mean, the only good thing about that movie was that it was so astonishingly bad.  Good Lord, what a spectacular movie!

And Ed Wood was serious!

yeah that's what makes it so BAD.  The thing is, I wonder if it played in a drive in r something back then if anyone even noticed.  We're so used to campy retro stuff these days, I imagine genuine theatre goers at the time were probably pretty dissapointed/p**sed off at what a piece of junk it was.  I'm so into bad mvies I can't begin t see it that way though.

Edward D. Wood, Jr. greatest asset was his "never say die" approach.  He took what he had and did what ever he could to see his work come to fruition.  He didn't let anyone stand in his way of making his dreams a reality.

If you look at early singing auditions for AMERICAN IDOL you'll see the same type of personality, but without the sole resourcefulness.

I've thought of it as an innocent childlike quality that never waviers despite a constant barrage of "you'll never make it in this business".  Think of kids performing in a grade school play.  They're just doing their best.  That's what makes the effort so endearing.

If you think Plan 9 fails on every level and is absolutely ridiculous, surf around on eBay for a bit and score a copy of Robo Vampire.

Now that you have PLAN 9, you should pick up GLEN OR GLENDA?, NIGHT OF THE GHOULS, and BRIDE OF THE MONSTER.  I bought all 4 of them on DVD at different times.  Some night I'm gonna get up the nerve to watch them all back-to-back.

Let me know how it goes... I watched Glen or Glenda the other day and my brain nearly tried to crawl out of my ears in an effort to escape the unimaginable depths of crappiness and tedium the movie sank to...
