Title: Continuity goofs
Post by: trekgeezer on January 10, 2004, 08:35:57 PM
I guess a lot of people don't look too close, but I am always noticing these things. There are usually lots of them in B movies.

Here are a couple of examples:

Lethal Weapon:  There is a sequence with Danny Glover and Mel Gibson  riding down the street in the car with the camera perspective looking in through the windshield . The two sides of the conversation were obviously shot at different times because every time the scene switches back to Glover the steering wheel and the shift lever are in different positions. The car is also being towed because you will notice that sometimes the shifter is obviously in Park.

Commando:  Arnold and Rae Dawn chase down Sully. Their car crashes into a pole and Sully's Porsche is turned on it side.   Arnold drops Sully off the cliff , comes back and  uprights the Porsche to reveal the side all caved in. We then see them drive off and the car has spontaniously repaired itself.

One I've seen many times is the car substitution. A 1980 Ford pickup is heading towards the edge of a cliff  when the camera angle changes and then truck is a 1962  Dodge  as it goes over the cliff and explodes.

What sort of goofs have you caught?

Not a continuity error but I watched "The House on Sorority Row" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085694/) a few nights ago and one thing that struck me as hilarious was when people would go upstairs in this big old house and walk in a side door...and inside they were in an obvious  public restroom with brick walls and stalls and such...

My fave is when Sean Connery is breaking open the fire door in The Untouchables. He's holding the axe, opens the door, then all of a sudden he's holding....a shotgun!

Or, in Friday the 13th part 5, The girl in her blue truck passes the same rock about 4-5 times.

There have been several threads on this topic.

I gotta wonder if some of the goofs are left in as an in-joke. Some of them are so glaringly obvious. Or, maybe the continuity person is a drinker, who knows. But, like you Trek, I enjoy them and enjoy pointing them out(much to the annoyance of those watching with me.)

I said that not to keep you from posting a new thread, but because I thought you might want to search for some of the older ones to read.
