Title: The BLACK KNIGHT principle.
Post by: Flangepart on January 13, 2004, 07:31:12 PM
As in Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

We all remember the scene with the Black Knight.
The joke works, inspite of the gore, and indeed, in counterpoint to it, because the Knight refuses to respont correctly to being, uh, "Disarmed".
"Have at you!"
"What?"
"Have at you!"
"What? Your arms off!"
"Tis but a scratch!"
"Your a loonie."

Well, you get the drift.
Sooooo.....
Beside Python, what films have used the same principle for a gag?
I bet i've missed some.......

"Oh! Running away. Come back here...i'll gnaw your legs off!"

How about the boxing match between Luke and Dragline in "Cool Hand Luke"?

"Nothin!  He beat you with a handful of nothin!  Just like he beat me out in that yard...  with nothin."

In National Lampoon's European vacation, Eric Idle keeps getting injured and claiming it's just a scratch, even when blood is jetting out of his wrist.
