I was flipping through the channels last night when I saw that Trio was showing Kolchak!
I couldn't believe it. I have been waiting for a DVD of the episodes, but now doubt one will ever be released.
Anyway, it's great to finally see the show again. Last night's episode was about 'Mr. R.I.N.G.' if anyone remembers. It involved Kolchak investigating the murder of a scientist who supposedly died of a heart attack. Kolchak eventually finds out that the scientist was killed by a robot he was inventing for the government (who eventually kidnap Kolchak and erase his memory).
This show is by far one of the best horror themed shows to ever be made. Think of it as the grandfather of the X Files.
Anyway, does anyone else remember this show?
Also if you want to catch it, it'll be shown on Trio all week at 8 PM.
Great show. I was always freaked out by it during its original run. I saw an episode not to long ago (last couple of years?), can't imagine how I was so freaked out by it, such cheesy monsters. I'm glad it's back on though.
Loved the show, and enjoyed it recently on Scream. Darren McGavin's portrayal of Kolchak definitely makes the show. He's a real smartass and the kind of reporter who is basically a good guy, but just a little sleazy.
Being a reporter myself, I really appreciate the humour. There are some newsroom gags that are just bang on.
Yup, I loved walking this show. Some of the effects are pretty dated now, like the cheesy headless motorcycle rider with the giant body (to hide the stuntman's head) or R.I.N.G.'s giant head (to hold the electronics in front of the actor's face), but some are still pretty creepy. In particular, the one about the creature that appears as people you know and then kills you or the sewer creature.
Been wanting to see the original TV movie NIGHT STALKER since reading about it recently. I don't get Trio so I'll have to wait.
I always liked the way all the evidence would conveniently disappear, leaving Kolchak looking like a nut.
