Title: Good movies you don't want to see twice
Post by: Eirik on January 15, 2004, 01:30:01 AM
In my quest to see everything I can with LOTR's Miranda Otto in it, I rented the Jack Bull the other night.  A pretty good movie, in my opinion, but what a freaking downer!  I won't put in any spoilers, but this was such a sad and depressing movie that despite how good I thought it was, I don't ever want to see it again.

Then the other night, TBS (or something) had DeNiro's "The Fan" on.  Again a very well done, well acted thriller - but some of those scenes were utterly agonizing to watch - especially those where DeNiro embarassed his son (played by a very good young actor).  I thought the Fan was a good movie, but hell if I'll ever put myself through watching it again.

Can anyone else think of any good movies that they don't care to ever see a second time?

You're right about "The Jack Bull".

It was a very good film but I absolutely could not believe that what happened in the end actually happened!

If there was ever a good man who got totally screwed over it was John Cusack's character.

It was a very sad ending.

The ones I don't want to see again are the ones I don't remember.

8 millimeter. This tied into the other thread of movies too disturbing to see once you have kids.

The one that immediately comes to mind for me is "The Others".  I really enjoyed the film the first time.  Knowing now how it will end I'm not sure I would want to see it again.

the Ring was the 1st one that popped in my head. I really liked the American version a lot, but after seeing it only one time you basically get all the shock treatment you can get before watching it again.

I liked THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT but have only seen it once and don't think it would hold up to repeated viewing.

I still haven't seen RETURN OF THE KING a second time and I don't think I will ever see it in the theater again.  I'll probably rent it when it comes out on video and I'll check out the special edition of it, but I really don't think I could handle seeing it in the theater a second time.

The Sixth Sense -  Once you slap yourself on the forehead for not catching any of the clues there's not much reason to watch it again.

Yeah, I knew coming in about the big ending....in some ways it was interesting watching it knowing what was going to happen and seeing the various clues but it's definitely not something I could watch again.

I had that one figured out in the first 20 minutes or so.

Battle Royale.  Very powerful and also very unpleasant and difficult to watch.  Perhaps the only movie that has ever given me nightmares.

One that comes to mind for me is Vanilla Sky ... it was pretty cool to watch trying to figure the HECK is going on (I had not heard much about it at all, and we bought the DVD 'site unseen') ... we may watch it again at some point, but the urge to sit through it again hasn't hit yet.
