I was just wondering what your favourite T.V. theme tunes or songs, from any era.
I dont what these songs are called (or even if they're named) so ill just name the T.V. show they're off.
Mine are: in order
1) Magnum P.I. (dan da dan dan da dan da daaa!)
2) Only Fools and Horses
3) The A Team (obviously)
4) Red Dwarf
5) The Streets of San Fransico
Batman! The batman theme tune from the sixties how could i forget! Its the best theme tune ever. Also the spiderman theme tune from the 70's cartoon is very cool.
there all goo but i would add
Miami Vice
Starsky & Hutch (only the first version)
Battlestar Gallatica
Buck Rodger in the 24th Century
Sharky and George
Spiderman ( both the tv series and the cartoon)
and many more
MASH
Hill Street Blues
Angela (the theme from Taxi)
Quantum Leap
I-Man (or the Invisible Man on the Sci-Fi Channel)
The Shield
NYPD Blue
6 million dollar man
Jonny Quest from the 60's
The Equalizer
The various themes from Babylon 5, I especially like the 5th season theme
too many others to list.
Also,
Gilligan's Island.
Doctor Who and The A-Team. That is all.
Knight Rider... : )
I have a great CD with all the great TV theme music. Sometimes we play them on long trips. Green Acres and Beverly Hillbillies.
Not sure why but Petticoat Junction is a neat little one. Actually I like them all.
I agree with a lot of the ones listed here, especially the Doctor Who theme. The Spider-man Live theme is one I love, but that doesn't mean it's good, right?
I'd also like to suggest the Blake's Seven theme. That one's a pip.
However, the best, the absolute best, TV theme is "The Incredible Hulk". That ending theme is absoultely haunting.
spiderman
diffren't strokes
addams family
Hercules
mission impossible
lone ranger..hello? how simplier and catchy can a theme be?
Honestly I used to love old tv shows prior to 1990, because nearly all of them had lyrics..I had all the tv shows memorized even if I didn't like them. You can't sing along with today's tv shows (and if you can it's some song they'll play on the radio like Friends). I don't think there are many, if any really notabley good theme songs in today's shows.
Airwolf
Battlestar Galactica
Chips
Invisible Man
Roswell
Jake 2.0
Space 1999
U.F.O.
"in the non too distant future...."
Yea, CHIPS and A-TEAM were good ones.
Oh, yeah. The Rhino t.v. theme cd's. Great stuff.
You guys have covered all the ones i like.
Hummm....how about the WORST themes? "My mother the car" would have to be right up...right down there!
Yeah - the A-Team, Airwolf, and Magnum P.I. all had great theme songs.
I also like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly (there's apparently nothing about that series I didn't like...), and Angel (Angel's dark and gothy theme is just plain awesome...)
Then there's Dr. Who, always a classic. Red Dwarf has an awesome theme, too... "It's cold outside/there's no kind of atmosphere..." I find myself occasionally sining that one to myself.
Going into Anime, Neo Genesis Evangelion has a catchy theme, as does Gunbuster: Aim for the Top. My favorite Anime theme songs, however, are from Vision of Escaflowne (absolutely beautiful, romatic tune), and Urusei Yatsura (arguably the most appropriate theme song for any television series anywhere...). Ranma 1/2 had a catchy theme in it's first season.
As for the most annoyiing theme song of all time, who can forget the Smurfs?
I'd say M.A.S.H. too. The Song is Suicide Is Painless.
Let's see what else
1. Get Smart Theme
2. Greatest American Hero Theme
3. Fall Guy - The Unknown Stuntman
4. Dallas Theme
Doctor Who
Red Dwarf
MST3K
Blake's 7
Red Green
Brother R
I can't forget to add Hardcastle and McCormick's theme song
Knightrider.
I also like the Ironside theme. It's that weird sound. Yes, I even liked it before I saw Kill Bill...
Got to add Outlaw Star,
and, oddly, I like the ridiculously "chirpy" theme that opens Teen Titans...
Can we name ending themes too?
"The Real Folk Blues" that plays at the end of Cowboy Bebop has to be mentioned.
Can't remember if anyone's mentioned this one yet.
Mr. Ed
Keeping Up Appearances (brit com)
Are you Being Served? (brit com)
Green Acres
Beverly Hillbillies
Here's my (Ahem! Cough! Cough!) laundry list of favourite T.V.. show theme tunes. Most of which I see have not been mentioned.
Instrumental versions
Hill St. Blues
Dr. Who
Flash Forward
Song versions
Secret Agent Man by Johnny Rivers
Flipper
The Yellow Rose
Second Noah
Go! Speedracer! Go!
Tribal Spirit from "The Tribe"
I've been trying to find the name of a tv show that has the theme song "holding out for a hero" (or possibly "i need a hero"). The song i think was sung by bonnie tyler, and its and early 80's tv show.
Any help?
That was "Cover Up" starring the late Jon-Eric Hexum, who accidentally killed himself with a prop gun.
My favs:
Due South (bought both soundtracks because this show had cool music all over it)
Rockford Files
Starsky and Hutch (the funky one)
Barney Miller
Cowboy Bebop
The Prisoner
Barretta
and the end theme to WKRP
I had a friend in high school who every time the bus would leave for a band trip he would play the Airwolf theme as loud as possible on his boom box. I could never make th point to him just how lame this was or how much EVERYONE (including me) hated when he would do it.
It was called 'Cover Up' Made in 1984. Came to an abrupt end when the main character, Jon-Erik Hexum, accidently shot himself in the head with a 'prop' .44 magnum whilst fooling around on set.
Theme tune was called 'Holding out for a hero' and although it sounded like Bonnie Tyler singing it, I seem to recall that it wasn't her at that time.
Tune was written by Jim Steinman, the guy responsible for 'Bat Out Of Hell' & Bonnie Tyler DID eventually release it as a single.
1. Batman
2. Dark Shadow
3. Man from UNCLE (Second season)
4. Ironside (although I wish I had a recording of the score from the pilot)
5. Peter Gunn
6. Hawai 5-O
7. Tie - The Virginian (Percy Faith) and Men from Shilo (Ennio Morricone)
8. Doctor Who
9. The Monkees
10. Tie UFO and Laugh-In (nearly the same song)
In no particular order
S.W.A.T.
Hunter
Peter Gunn
Mission Impossible
Simon & Simon
Hawaii Five-O
MASH (with lyrics)
Miami Vice
Batman (60's TV)
Wonder how many names mentioned here were written by Mike Post (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006236/)?

Ever since I found the very lovely site Retro Junk I've gotten to hear a lot of old t.v. show themes.
I think one would be the Inspector Gadjet theme.
But thanks to DVD the world can rehear/watch the greatest opening ever!
I'm talking about the Adventure of Pete and Pete!
Oh yeah! After all the years of not being able to see it I still could summon that opening in my head and now it's recharged to the max!
GO DVD!
My favs:
Magnum P.I.
Miami Vice
Ironside (yeeeeessss!)
Starky & Hutch (the one by Lalo Schifrin)
Mission Impossible (speaking of Schifrin)
The Great American Hero
Farscape (original theme by Subvision, not the one that plays in later seasons).
Not in my top 5, but Ithink they haven't been mentioned yet:
Star Trek - The Next Generation
The X-Files
That's actually the theme from Star Trek: The Motion Picture by Jerry Goldsmith.
In an interview the composer for the X-Files was asked if there were lyrics for the theme. He said , the only lyrics might be:
The X-Files is a show,
with music by Mark Snow.
