Title: Movie Titles You Think Are Horrible
Post by: Ash on January 29, 2004, 06:32:51 AM
There are many BAD movie titles out there.
There are two that I simply cannot stand and I don't know why.

These two titles are from very recent films.

"Mystic River"
And....
The most horrible movie title in recent memory that I absolutely hate is....

"Cold Mountain"

AHHHH!!!!

I have heard that both films are indeed very good but I cannot get over the fact that I think that they have HORRIBLE titles!

Mystic River isn't so bad but Cold Mountain on the other hand....

"Cold" is not a bad word and neither is "mountain"....but put them together and they inexplicably form one of the most terrible film names ever!

Both "Cold Mountain" and "Mystic River" sound like horrid, cliched BAD romance novel titles.

I shudder upon uttering those two words aloud....COLD....MOUNTAIN.
UUGGHH!!!

I hopefully am not the only one who thinks that the title of "Cold Mountain" totally stinks!

Do you think the title Cold Mountain is horrible also?

What other movie titles do you totally dislike and for what reason?

"Deep Space" - about  a sattilite in Earth orbit that crash lands, infected with an alien.  Neither word applies, very little space...none of it deep.

Being from the Boston area, I can explain Mystic River.

Mystic River is the name of a river in Boston (where the movie was filmed).  Part of the movie was filmed on the Tobin Bridge, which used to be called the Mystic River Bridge.  I don't think it is strange to name a movie after a town or a river or some other geographical landmark.  Many movies have names like this:

* NEW YORK, NEW YORK
* PARIS, TEXAS
* NIAGARA
* RIO BRAVO
* CHICAGO

I don't think that Mystic River is more horrible than any of these.

My idea of some horrible movie titles are:

* QUACKSER FORTUNE HAS A COUSIN IN THE BRONX
* THE EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN-IN-THE-MOON MARIGOLDS
* CAN HIERONYMUS MERKIN EVER FORGET MERCY HUMPPE AND FIND TRUE HAPPINESS? (co-starring Joan Collins as "Polyester Poontang" . . . need I say more?)

Compared to the above titles, MYSTIC RIVER and COLD MOUNTAIN seem pretty normal to me.

THE EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN-IN-THE-MOON MARIGOLDS

An incredible, beautiful, outstanding play, mangled into a poor movie.

Both with a horrible title...

What about Gigli?  Half the public couldn't even pronounce it.

Darkman 3: Die Darkman Die
Ringu (not so much the title as the stupidly literal phonetic translation)
Wu-Tang Ho's, Thugs & Scrillah (I actually like this title, I just have no idea what it means)

GINGER SNAPS.  Really terrible title, and probably the main reason more people didn't see it.

I thought MASTER AND COMMANDER was a lousy title too, but it's like MYSTIC RIVER and COLD MOUNTAIN....those are the names of the books on which the movies were based.

2 Fast 2 Furious. I haven't seen the first one, nor have i wanted to. But the name of the sequel is enough proof for me to just avoid.

While I'm talking about 2 fast 2 furious, has any ony heard the stupid rap theme for it? It went "2 fast....2 furious......2 fast......2 furious..etc.". it made me laugh and laugh. hands down the worst theme song i have ever heard.

"Mystic River", "Cold Mountain", and "Gigli" are sighs in a hurricane compared to titles like

*  Rat Fink a Boo Boo - This originally was going to be called "Rat Fink and Boo Boo" but an error with the credits changed that.  Neither titles are very good.

*  The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!?

and, the wiener
* Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?

Gigl can't even compare to Can.  Its a gargle and then its gone.   Can goes on forever and has a pun to boot.

On the subject of "edgy, urban" movies designed to market various cars and/or motorcycles, how about "Biker Boyz" for an awful title?
