Knowing that quite a few people on the board (including myself) have quite a soft spot for Godzilla, I figured I'd mention a little bit of news I read recently. Versus director Ryuhei Kitamura is slated to be directing a new 50th Anniversary Godzilla flick.
So far it sounds like the film might actually be a rehash of Destroy All Monsters. I hope the film is going to be primarily Japanese but the fact that the FX contracts have been given to Americans and the fact that some of the film will even be shot in America (battle in NYC perhaps?) has me wondering.
If anyone will be able to direct this film, I do believe it is Kitamura. Versus, Azumi, etc. The man is great!
Thoughts?
They had better not let Matthew Brodderick within a hundred miles of the set.
Hmmm, NYC? It'd make sense, but I'm not sure from a P.R. point of view that having Godzilla stomping on a lot of buildings in the city is a good move. I'd like it, but then I'm a bit perverse.
Heh. Good point Raj
I'd say they should just give the reins back to Kaneko. GMK is the best G-flick since the original, and geez, did you see the Gamera Trilogy? I haven't seen Versus yet, so I'll reserve judgment. It's next on my "to buy" list after Red Dwarf series 3 and 4 arrive.

Serious good new.
I'd advise the U.S. battle(s) in say, Seattle. Lay off the east coast.
And yeah....Keep Matthew away from this one....send him to Bollywood, and teach 'em to sing in Indian.
This is strictly Japanese right? Classic Godzilla right?
If were like "Destory all Monsters" than it already sounds awesome, I just hope it's Japanese. NO AMERICANS IN CHARGE. Sorry about that but you know the last time we had Americans make a Godzilla movie. (I don't mind if there are American actors, nothing against that.)
