Title: Logan's Run - Remake!
Post by: Mr_Vindictive on March 06, 2004, 09:47:00 AM
Seems that Bryan Singer is looking to remake Logan's Run.  I'm a huge fan of Singer's ever since seeing The Usual Suspects.  I've been disappointed with his work with the XMen films but I do believe he would be a fine director for Logan's Run.  Here is the story from joblo.com:

"When you think Bryan Singer and Logan you probably think of X-MEN. But now there will be another reason to put the two names together. Bryan Singer has signed on to direct a remake of the classic sci-fi action flick LOGAN'S RUN for Warner Bros. The project is being produced by Joel Silver and is being fasttracked for a start date later this year. Singer and his X2 production designer Guy Dyas have already begun designing the futuristic world of LOGAN. Singer is changing up the film slightly from the 1976 original basing his film more so on the novel that film was based on. In the original film the character is on the run from the government on the eve of his 30th birthday - the age when all citizens are sentenced to a mandatory death penalty to reduce overpopulation. Singer's version will have the age reduced to 21 as in the novel. The film is already being tentatively scheduled for a summer 2005 release. Singer is also working on a treatment for X3 though that film will (should it happen) follow this one."

So are they serious this time, remake talk has been getting kicked around for years. I've reached the point of saying, "I'll believe it when I see the first trailer."

Besides with Joel Silver involved, all I can think is BIG, LOUD, STUPID!!! Or pretenious pseudo-intellectual sci-fi like "The Matrix" films where there's less there than meets the eye.

I'm not a big fan of Singer. I thought that the plot holes in "The Usual Suspects," were big enough to drive a truck through, including taking somebody out of the country on a freighter. I will see it, if only because I enjoyed the original so much. I just wonder if they are going to film the remake in the same place they filmed the original. I actually live in the city, where they filmed some of the original. And one point in the film's favor, they are reducing the age of termination from 30, in the original, to the book's 21. If it is remade, this will be a big screen remake. The original was orignally remade into a short lived television series.

A remake of "Logan's Run" would be interesting. The original came out at a time when Sci-Fi was trying to be fairly intellectual and the sci-fi was a way of doing social commentary.  "Logan's Run" was one such.  Sci-Fi wasn't been like that in quite some time.  Curious if they'll attempt to a) comment on the same subjects b) comment on subjects of concern or interest to use in this time c) ignore commentary and just make it an action movie

Gee, nobody over 21... Sounds tailer made for youth-obsessed Hollywood.

I actually read that the age he uses may be reduced from thirty  but  I didn't think he ws going to go for 21. I read the book a long time ago and there are a lot of things  that make it different from the movie.

Susan, mentioning carousel makes you a geek.

Singing Flock Of Seagulls and getting the song stuck in my head makes you evil.

Just run the Animaniacs theme through your head; that should clear everything else out.

Singing old Iggy Pop songs like "Search and Destroy" and "I Wanna Be Your Dog" works pretty well also.

I'm a huge fan of all 3 books, and for a few years there I thought about obtaining the rights to the books to make a huge miniseries (at least 16 hrs) for HBO. But I've since realized that I don't like film adaptations of books that much and would prefer to write my own original screenplays.
