I love this movie. I'm sure I'd feel different if it didn't come out when I was a Nintendo-obsessed 8-year-old, but I have a definite soft spot for it; at the very least, it introduced me to Dennis Hopper at a very early age!

Looking at it now, has anyone noticed that much of the plot seems to be stolen directly from Buckaroo Banzai? The alternate dimension reached by going through solid rock, the dictator who wants to merge the dimension (played by a hammy character actor with a crazy hairdo)... Even the cars are remniscient of the Oscillation Overthruster. Seems like on odd movie to rip off, all in all...

Oh, and you forgot to mention the movie's adaptation of mushroom-man Toad: Mojo Nixon, essentially playing himself!

.  .  .  .  Super Mario Brothers is a terrible film, but I remember finding it really fun.  In the vid. game movie thread, it seemed that everyone disliked the film, but someone other than me does like it.  And didn't this film come out, like,  years,  after the video game was popular?  I think I was amped to see the film, only catch it years later on HBO.  But, alas, it has been years since seeing it...
.  .  .  .  It seems that the films lately are not up to Andrew's liking.  Perhap's April's triumphant return will be The Wizard (1989).  Kidding.
