Title: Question on Logan's Run
Post by: Gecko Brothers on April 02, 2004, 10:03:23 PM
How did it got a PG rating. What was the MPAA thinking? There were more than five pairs of breast, a couple of  revealed rears, a guy gets melted, one chopped up, and multiple sex scenes!

It was the 70's, you could see most of that stuff just  going to a disco club.  (Except for the melting guy)

It was the 70's man!..  Right off!

I love that movie. A true classic.
If they make a remake and it sucks it will be a truely sad day.

In the 70s, many movies that would get a PG-13 or possibly an R today were rated PG.  I remember seeing quite a few pairs of breasts in various PG movies when I was a kid.  For example, WALKING TALL, PART 2 has a bare breast scene.  It was the only movie in the trilogy that was rated PG.  The other 2 were rated R.

On the other side of the coin, many movies that were rated X in the 70s would only be rated R today.  For instance, MIDNIGHT COWBOY, which actually came out in 1969, was originally rated X.  THE LAST TANGO IN PARIS was also rated X, but even the uncut version is pretty tame by today's standards.

.  .  .  .  Andromeda Strain has a long pause on a topless dead woman, and it is rated G.  I remember asking someone a question about it too.

It is kinda funny. Since I wasn't born in the 70's much less living in the 70's I missed all  this great stuff. So I Guess you guys are right. The 70's haved pretty wierd standards for what kids can or cannot watch. Thanks for the answers!

And let's not forget the original PLANET OF THE APES, which was also rated G.  It showed the astronauts swimming bare-assed in a pond, as well as people being beaten, shot, etc.

Plus, there was some mild swearing.

The movie WHAT'S UP DOC? was also rated G.  There isn't a lot in it that kids shouldn't see, but it does have a few moments that would certainly earn it at least a PG today (such as Barbra Streisand emerging from a bubble bath in an attempt to seduce Ryan O'Neal)..
