Hey wondering if someone could help me out. I'm trying to find a bad sci-fi movie I saw in the 80's. It would have been released on VHS by 1988. Don't remember much but at the ending there is some guy and a woman and they are trying to escape something. The guy mutates into a monkey type looking thing. From what I remember they were wearing outfits that kinda looked like the moonraker jumpsuits. Vague I know...can anyone help me out?

It was made in 1973, but I saw it on cable in the 80s. I don't remember much, but I do remember that it starred a guy and a woman and at the end, someone mutated into an apeman type thing. I seem to recall reading that it was based on a series of books.
