Well folks I finally saw this, and instead of wasting the precious wrist muscle to complain about how bad it sucked I'm just gonna say this: in 30 years this is going to be on MST 3000.

ive read the comic faithfully for years now and i think they changed the charather too much. i know u have to change charathers so it appels to everyone not just a fanboy like myself but they changed the core of the charather to much. successfully comic movies like x-men and spiderman aimed to please fans who read the comics and a wide audience who just want to see the movie. punisher just didnt work on either level. first the FBI thing. in the comics he was a marine in vietnam. i know the vietnam thing wouldnt work he be to old. but they could kept him in the military somehow like if he was a SEAL or a army ranger. it would have been more believable. the location was kind of dumb. he from NYC. even if u couldnt film here thier plenty of movies that arent filmed here and say it NYC. the film trys to get fanboys from the comic on it side by having his three roomates and the fight with the russia which were all in a punisher mini series called "welcome back frank". it didnt work for me. well i done ranting thanks for listening.

I thought the movie was very good. I went in not expecting much at all and it totally surprised me.
In a message that I posted many months ago, I predicted that THE PUNISHER would be terrible. It's always a dead giveaway when they start advertising a movie, and theaters start displaying the poster, and then the ads suddenly disappear from sight, only to show up again several months later. This often means that the movie bombed when it was shown to test audiences and was recalled so that they could either shoot new scenes or re-edit the movie. THE PUNISHER'S ad campaign started about a year ago . . . then, suddenly, it disappeared until now.
Other examples:
* EATERS OF THE DEAD, which was advertised at least a year before it was finally released under a different title (THE 13TH WARRIOR).
* DREAMCATCHER - big ad campaign - mysterious disappearance - subsequent release to lousy reviews.
* CAPTAIN AMERICA (with Matt Salinger) - poster displayed in theater lobby - mysterious disappearance - a year or two later it gets a direct-to-video release.
They did that with Underworld here; advertised for about a year before it actually came out.
They've only just started playing the previews for Punisher here, but it doesn't look too bad.
And I liked Dreamcatcher, for the record, I didn't think it was that bad at all.
I thougt it kicked major ass compared to the 1989 version. Plus, its closer to the comics as well.
It would be nice (But silly) if someones does a new version of Howard The Duck thats a more close adaption of the Marvel comic from the 70's, I bet the old film didn't follow it very well, and was a loose adaption, but anyways it would be wonderful if they do.
I liked it. I mean, it wasn't exactly art house cinema, but, then, I don't like arthous cinema.
As far as following the comic goes - he was and ex-military dude, who was employed by the FBI at the start of the film. He was an ex-seal, but you have to listen carefully to pick up on it. Regardless, I didn't care.
I've hated the comic book for years.
The movie, however, I liked. It was kind of like a new version of Death Wish. It was dark and gritty, but fun all the same.
And I don't care what you say - Heck was cool as hell in the movie.
were all intitled to our opinion grumpy guy and iam glad u liked the movie. i think ur right about the navy seal thing i remember he said something to his kid after their done swimming. also u should gave the comic a chance i know it sucked bad years ago but marvel did right and moved him to the mature line called "MAX" line.

I will say that I have not seen the movie. However, I am not sure how it could be put on film and be REALLY distinct from the 100's of other gun-guy-revenge movies out there.

quite frankly,i think most of you are smoking crack. sirs,this movie was far,far better than the piece of tripe called 'kill bill vol 2'. it had a storyline,it had a love story(which i didnt like at first,but grew to) and 3 more words:rebecca romjin-stamos. hehe ok ok and travolta,as a bad guy,was believable. i too was a fan of the comic,for years,though they kind of lost me after the one story arc had a cheesy ending. but enough of that. if you were a diehard fan of the comic,some of the inconsistencies may disuade you from seeing this movie(if its still in theaters),but if not,go see it,and send quentin no talent tarantino a message to take kill bill n stick it. thanks.
You know there are much more creative and constructive ways you can express dissent towards someone's opinion than by accusing them of doing illegal drugs. Just though I'd share. toodles.
