Has anybody been watching this new series on HBO? I like it. Does anyone else like it?
It's a good show, I enjoy it very much. My only gripe, and believe me this is something totally out of character for me, is that the language is goofy. Every other word is a curse word. I personally have a gutter mouth, but even I find the language a bit distracting. Otherwise, an excellant show.
I tried watching the first episode. I didn't care for it. I'm not offended by cursing in any way... but I thought they laid it on way too thick, which ruined the effectiveness of the overal dialog. Also I thought all the actors, with exception of only a small few, were overacting like crazy. The girl who played Calamity was the worst actor in the bunch. If I had to pick one main reason why I'm not watching Deadwood, it would be her.
...bring back Carnivale!!!
Not to belabor the point, but I didn't like the show either. A bunch of cowboys calling each other c*cksucker for sixty minutes wore a little thin, especially since it seemed to be the only real idea the writers had going into it. HBO is very hit or miss - Band of Brothers and Sopranos were very good... Sex in the City and Deadwood seem like little more than what you'd get if you told a bunch of highschool sophomores they could make a TV show with all the nudity, sex, and foul language they wanted. I don't mind the content... but there has to be more than just that to hold my interest.
Next best thing to Oz
I love the new gritty HBO series Deadwood. Long overdue for a great peice of work llike this.
