From MSNBC:
Will Marilyn Manson play Jesus?
The shock rocker â€" whose controversial lyrics and stage antics have made him the target of some Christian groups â€" is being tapped to play Christ in an upcoming film. “Diamond Dead†is a far cry from “The Passion of the Christ.†It’s a dark comedy about a rock band that makes a deal with the devil and â€" according to an excerpt of the script posted on line â€" in the film, Jesus smokes pot. “Diamond Dead†will be directed by George Romero, who also did “Night of the Living Dead,†and music was written by Richard Hartley, who composed for “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.â€
“The idea of Marilyn Manson in the role of Jesus Christ is getting all sorts of reactions,†according to the “Diamond Dead†web site. “Someone emailed me saying that it’s a horrible and anti-Christian idea, but nevertheless they are praying for us.â€
When called by the Scoop, Manson’s rep had no comment.
Hahaha that would be great... really.
I think this movie will end up being a cult favorite... especially when they keep these ideas up!
A remake of Crossroads with a remake (the accountants are hoping) of the controversy from the Passion of Christ thrown in for flavor. Ah, Hollywood.
Check out the gay Jesus, coming next month to theaters near you!
Yawn.
Yep, check out the gay tree-worshipping sadomasochist pedo pro-abortion Satanic Jesus. Very new and original, and remember: if you don't think this is the most daring and open-minded religious movie ever, you're a narrow-minded philistine and a censorship advocate.
It's not so widely known, but the real reason The Last Temptation of Christ flopped is because the story was so lame, not just because Christians boycotted it. We can expect this movie (if it's real) to go the same route.
Actually, these lame religious movies have given me a pretty funny idea, though: make a film that's supposedly a Neo-Nazi attempt to break into the market for Jewish films. See how long it takes for people to get the joke.
"We're moving up at a faster pace... Look out, here comes the master race!"
--From "Springtime for Hitler" in The Producers
That's it exactly. I was always under the impression that "open minded" meant that although you have your own opinions, you make an effort to understand and at least accept the idea that others have different opinions. In Hollywood, open minded means slavish devotion to political dogma and utter contempt for anyone with a different view. The funny part is that they are a perfect example of all the qualities they so despise in others.
Wait..the synopsies is about the band making a deal with death not the devil, what the hell?
Maybe the CAP ALERT site would be a better fit for some of these complainers...geez. It's not like Romero is exactly "Hollywood" either.
I look forward to the movie. I am a huge fan of horror film. This does not reflect my beliefs in anyway, nor should it effect anyone's. It's ENTERTAINMENT! IF Christians do not like it - Don't Watch It! Religion is a private issue. Thank you! ~DrJill
Ha! Another "religion is a private issue... except when we're shoving our hatred of it in your face" canard.
FYI, it's not so much the anti-religious films I mind as it is the idiot critics who go around giving this kind of crap rave reviews when they know better. (Case in point: at www.rottentomatoes.com, check out the 55% rave reviews of "Saved!" which is currently vanishing into well-deserved obscurity with barely a ripple.) One of the opposing critics at that site said it all: keeps from giving religious offense mainly by settling for insulting our intelligence.
Save your ranting for someone who needs it; that Christians are not going to watch this film is a given. I'm working from history here: if this Manson film's even real, it's going to go down in flames and lose huge piles of money just like every other film of its kind did. (Last Temptation of Christ, anyone?) But that isn't going to stop a bunch of "professional" critics from declaring it "daring" and "a refreshingly irreverent look at religion!" We're just taking this opportunity to get in a few jabs at their crap in advance.
its the best Manson is the best to play Jesus
Very funny, Man5on. Now, lean over here so I can smack you!
from what george romero said at the chicago film festival, it is only going to be a bit part. it's not like it's going to star manson. and while i'm no fan, is it any worse than hollywood giving roman polanski an oscar? or woody allen still being idolized by B list actors? manson is just a big gag, it whimpers in comparison to alice cooper, but come on. even alice paraded around with doll heads. so, i guess i'm just sayin that a manson appearance won't keep me from a romero flick on the big screen...

Are you peope mad?
Don't b***h about how lame its going to be.
Try and think about what the consequences for this are going to be.
Marilyn Manson is used as a morality scapegoat (ahem, columbine) They need someone to blame, otherwise it could be THEIR fault.
Christians b***hed when Mel Gibson played Christ, well now their worst nightmare, a devils 'advocate' will be playing the part, none the less maybe smoking weed.
It will be amusing to see the Christian protesters screaming to be let into heaven.
oh, and note, Richard Hartley is a genius.nobody wrote:

funny, last temptation and jesus of montreal were moderately succesful culties here in Oz. Passion was an absolute blitz.. due to the Oz-Mel connection.
not that I give a lemmings bum about religion and its attached zealotry, I certainly hope that this movie rises to the appeal that spinal tap raised.
If only the former yugoslavia, chechnia, the middle east and the subcontinent had their own marylin manson we'd be in a much finer state.
If only George Bush, Tony Blair, John Howard, David Bowie, Nina Hagen and Marylin Manson slept in the same bed the world would be a much finer place.
Listen Guys... if you cant stand comedy, Vaudeville and wholesome parody... join the NAVY
and please email all displeasure to me... im not coming back here to see 50 posts by the one wanker nobody
I have a real problem with people that think that all religous people are out to make sure that they throw their believes in your face. Just because someone is religious does not make them an over the top fanatic. There are many people out there that do not eat meat, but they are not all fanatical member of PETA and protest everytime there hear of someone eating a steak. It is just simpleminded to think that way.
I am not the most religious person in the world, but I am also not a narrowminded idiot. When people put out a movie like this one that you are speaking of it is just fine and dandy and nobody should be able to speak against it. But when somone puts out a movie like "the passion" they are throwing their believes in your face and are fanatics and deserved to be protested against. Tell me who throws their believes in who's face. .
Just my two cents worth. ....Sorry for the rant.
I totally agree with you. I am a Christian and I saw "Passion". I'm not going to see "Diamond Dead". I wont protest it, I'm just CHOOSING not to see it because it would most likely offend me. That's what irritates me about society today- people can't seem to seperate "freedom OF religion" from "freedom FROM religion". I know it goes both ways (Jerry Fallwell vs ACLU), but people just need to chill out. If you don't like what a movie says, don't see it. If you don't like the nativity scene on your neighbors front yard, don't look at it.
I think I'm done now...
I sure hope George Romero doesn't work with that pansy! All that will do is pack the theatre with a bunch of nerdy gothic teens. I'm going to lose some respect for Romero if this comes to pass.
