Post by: nobody on May 28, 2004, 12:18:20 PM
I'm looking for some smart, entertaining movies containing artificially intelligent robots. Got any suggestions?

i would recomnend u "2001 space odyssey" yes can be kind of smart, but terribly boring, slow aand sopprific, the right film  if u have Insomnia.
anyway, it would be great if somebody would make "i, robot" an amazing book of isaak asimov, this one could be smart and  entertainig.

Forbidden Planet
The Invisible Boy

Although Robby isn't the star of either, but he does play a pretty big part.

I too was hopping someone would shoot some of isaac asimov stories... being a fan i was REALLY HAPPY when i found they were, and "I,robot" would be a great choice... and i say would be because i've seen the trailer and it is awfull... it makes me wanna cry - Asimov's concept is totally mistaken and it's a shoot them up film.
Really a pitty because, if they could make an incredible movie like A.I. out of a single Brian Aldiss story, imagine what could be done with one of Asimov's .

Yes, they really have managed to p**s all over Asimov's idea... they effectively managed to change it from his vision to Planet of the Apes - with robots...

The Alien series [Bishop is by far one of the coolest robots, sorry, artificial persons, that I have seen on screen]

Terminator is a pretty obvious one as well.

Bicentennial Man was actually enjoyable for me.

Isn't the Stepford Wives about robots? or am I getting my lines really crossed on that one?

I always wanted to make a robot film; there's just something in the subject matter that seems so adaptable and easy to, well, exploit.  Especially with all the technophobic movies like I, Robot, terminator and the Matrix [by technophobic I mean the theme of being scared of the consequences of technology]  Just messing with the genre would be fun.

Robocop (the original) and Blade Runner come to mind.

I guess I can throw Circuitry Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099271/) and it's sequel[url] in there.

(yeah, I've seen all these that I've mentioned)

The original was, and I guess the new one is too. At least one of the sequels to the original was about cloning though.
