Title: Nick names....
Post by: daveblackeye15 on June 10, 2004, 12:44:29 AM
I just recieved my first nickname today in my last class of my Oral Presentation class. Our last assinment was to do a improvise speech. We've done these before except this time all of us graded each other on our speech. While we were passing our little grading papers in this one funny guy in the class ,Devon, said that he made up Nick Names for everyone in the class. For this one really cool guy in the class ,Gunluka (cool name), he called him the "Italion Stalion". Gunluka seemed to approve of the name. Then someone asked "Hey what's David's nickname"? In which Devon replied "Uh, it's not as good as Gunluka's it's 'Comic Book Guy'" I actually like it. I wonder if it has anything to do with me often saying I had a interest in comic books and that I wanted to create my own in the future. I know it's not very good but it's my first nickname ever and I'm happy it's not about something bad. Anybody care to share one of their nicknames?

'Comic Book Guy'?  I'm sure we can come up with something better!  But it's not as bad as some of the others I've heard:  One friend we often call 'b***h tits' another one we call 'little b***h'  Come to think of it, there's really not that much variety in there!  :-P

One of my first nicknames was taken from a book company.  Since my last name was the same as the production company that always had pamphlets in primary school, they all called me Scholastica for a little bit.

Other than that, nothing really.  Since my name is Dean, people add 'iss' to the end of it, just because it sounds like a certain 'appendage' and makes people chuckle to themselves.

Another one recently is 'Mr Sinister.'  Not after the comic character [people stared blankly when i mentioned that] but because apparently I look sinister.  I still maintain that i'm not.

My friend Adrian somehow acquired the nickname of a 'popular' detergent in primary school [it was advertised alot]  That was Ajax, which i thought was pretty cool.  It kind of tells me that advertising really does affect youths.

How about we make a nickname list for the people on this post?  It's kind of a stupid idea really, since we have nicknames for our names, but nevertheless.

I think 'Chuckles' would suit EvilDoctor.  Any others?

In High School, a group of dudes decided it would be fun to start calling me s&*$head, until the night I pushed one of them over the hood of a car.  I was a freshman, and I had all kinds of senior girls hanging on to me after that.  :)

My first name is John, so everywhere I've worked there has been at least one other John around (sometimes, quite a few).  In this situation, nicknames are inevitable.  I've been known as JR, Doc, John JR (even though I am not technically a Junior), and one bunch called me "Short-fuse" for a while partly because I was designing some forensic research experiments on Improvised Explosive Devices.  That one came in handy when I would be peeved at someone, I could say "you don't think they call me Short-fuse for nothing, do you?"  Hehe, that line was fun one year at a Christmas gathering.

I've been called a few things by different people over the years.

One of the leaders of my Cub pack as a kid happened to refer to me as Tank on one occasion, and it stuck for a while. It seemed to apply both for size and the amount of groceries I could pack away.

After high school, my best friend and I hung out with a group of girls from the Catholic high school (love those uniforms). They dubbed me Fish, because I seemed incapable of nursing a beer. That lasted a couple of years.

I was also once referred to as Big Andy â€" in an extra-husky voice no less â€" by a middle-aged Rabbi. This was in a thank-you speech at a church function last year (sort of a get-aquainted-with-another-faith thing), and I still get it from a couple of people (particularly my wife), in the appropriate voice.

These days, I'm generally just called by my own name.

Um, have you ever watched the Simpsons? I wouldn't want to be called "Comic Book Guy".

I was thinking the same thing Mr. Lobo, but I didn't want to smack poor Dave over the head with that. I figured that I'd let him continue with his blissful ignorance.
Really Dave, he could have called you Milhouse...worse than Comic Book Guy if you ask me.

My immediately family has called me J.R. since I was about 3-4 years old.

My first name is Jamey and my middle name is Ray hence the nickname.

I was quite popular with that nickname back in 1980 when everyone wanted to know "Who shot J.R.?" on Dallas.

I know my name ain't great in fact it's not even okay, that I know. I said it could be worse and I'm glad it's not a name like "Tinkerbell" or "Little Dicky" or "Fluffy" I'd much rather have "Comic Book Guy" than "Tinkerbell". In comic books you at least have Spider-Man.

I have no nickname - but back years ago my friend used to call me Jinx. Basically I prove murphy's law, it seems funny but it's not. Anything that can go wrong WILL in my presense. I am a target for bad luck.

For example, the hole in my living room ceiling with rain coming in just yesterday...

i've learned to accept it.... I am the black hole of misfortune. ;-)

I guess i never hung around a nickname crowd. Nicknames sometimes can be mean spirited and stick for life...most are not derived from sitting around thinking of cool names but how you can make fun of people.

I did. Back in my "skid" days, I used to hang out with a bunch of farm boys who went in for beer and smokes, hard rock and country, and souped-up cars. They were all Mennonites, they only had about three last names between them, and they all grew up together (same school, same church). They were a nickname crowd.

You could go to any party and see Brewy, Shorty (very tall), Spike, Nimble, Darrell the Barrel, Spider, Stocky, Killer, Wild Willy, Swervin' Curvin and many others. One set of brothers were known as Moo, Schmutz, Hoomlah, Cigar and Chuck. Then there were the guys who were nicknamed after their fathers for some reason, like Oscar (Reg) or Harve (Ron). There were, of course, a number of guys who had no nickname, and some who only got called by theirs occasionally, but there are a few to whom I still can't attach a real name.

I was always just Andy. Mind you, I was one of the few non-Mennonites that found their way into the group, and not until high school.
