Title: Horror movies with metal music?
Post by: jga on June 13, 2004, 09:10:01 PM
I can't think of any at the moment. Anyone know any? Especially ones with goregrind since goregrind bands are probably the biggest gorehounds around.

I do know Gummo has Absu and Mortician but it's not a horror film.

What about Creepers? It's been a while since I saw it so I don't remember if the music qualified as "metal", but I do remember that it seemed to have loud, pounding rock music during all the scenes where any other movie would have soft, suspenseful music.

Well, I just saw Vampire Resurrection (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0272851/) this week and it has a metal sound track, but may not be enough 'horror' for you

Creepers (Phenomenon is the uncut Euro version) has rock, but maybe not metal?  It doesn't get any more metal than Motorhead, brother.  Maiden ain't bad, either.
Ginger Snaps has a Fear Factory remix during the field hockey fight.
The Forsaken has a Coal Chamber (well, it's kinda metal) song.
Faust: Love of the Damned has a soundtrack with a bunch of old RoadRunner (before they pussed out) bands.
Cradle of Fear has Cradle of Filth.
I'm just waiting for a movie to use Kataklysm's "In Shadows and Dust" for a big fight scene.  It would have been perfect for the battle between Freddy and Jason.
I'm sure there are a bunch of underground homemade movies with goregrind soundtracks.

Not sure what sound you're looking for, but Queen of the Damned had alot of disturbed-type stuff on it, amongst others.

Apparently the 28 Days Later soundtrack has a bit of metal as well.

Um, other similar suggestions might be Resident Evil [Marilyn Manson did the soundtrack for some of it; its not too bad either]  Spawn [though probably not horror-classed]

But I have noticed that alot of thriller/horror movies lately have alot of hard rock/metal in them, in particular the new vampire movies: Dracula 2000 and Queen of the Damned both had references to how metal music gets the vampire seal of approval.

Slasher movies and metal go well together. Both were big in the 80s, and both share a somewhat similar appeal. Maybe they just appealed to the same people.

The one that jumps out for me is Wes Craven's Shocker. That had a great metal soundtrack, which I bought and used as a workout tape. Last time Shocker was on TV, I was amazed at how that pumping theme still gets my blood moving. Same old reaction, like I'm about to run or do squats.

Another I remember was Friday the 13th, Part 6, with a few Alice Cooper tunes, including Teenage Frankenstein, and a kick-ass theme (He's Back - The Man Behind the Mask) for the closing credits. The songs were all on the Constrictor album, which was my favourite jogging tape when I was 18.

I also recall that Nightmare on Elm St., Part 3, had a theme by Dokken. There are others, of course, but it's been a few years, and they don't immediately spring to mind.

I was already thinking that one as I started reading your post...I have "Dream Warriors" on CD around here somewhere...who can forget George Lynch and his "Bones" guitar...

For old school metal, you can't beat AC/DC's score for MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE!

Arrrgh!  How could I forget Hellraiser 3?  The theme tune at the end is done by Motorhead.  The song ("Hellraiser" for those wondering), was co-written by Lemmy and Ozzy, and appeared on Motorhead's "March or Die" album and Ozzy's "No More Tears" (my personal Ozzy fave) album.  The video features Lemmy playing poker with Pinhead and beating him.  One of the best metal videos ever.
A lot of Troma movies have metal soundtracks, particularly featuring Motorhead songs, as Lemmy tends to do guest spots for them as well.

A flick called "Blood Dolls".. It has great original metal music, played by vixens during the movie. Watch it, it's great.

I recall a movie with an evil rocker on the cover. Had a big electric guitar with spikes and blades molded into it. Was it Slumber Party Massacre?

Don't know if it actually had metal in it (didn't rent it), but it would be kind of dumb if it didn't.

That was Slumber Party Massacre 2.  The guitar was red and looked like it was made of deer antlers, with a big drill coming out of the tuning stock.  I've always wanted that guitar...

Texas Chainsaw massacre 3 is another one. Lazz Rocket did the theme and Death Angel is on the soundtrack also.

In The Hidden, I believe the badass alien had a passion for fast cars and heavy metal.
