Title: Personal mental background music
Post by: daveblackeye15 on June 15, 2004, 11:46:58 AM
Back in March I started learning how to drive, for a while I mainly kept to parking lots, residential areas and the city. Four weeks ago I started going on the Highway and right in the middle of it I realized that for the past ten minutes the music from the "Highway" scene from Matrix Reloaded was playing in my head. I must have been expecting some ghost twins to attack me or something. I always hear this in my head when I go on the highway now.

Another one is whenever I'm going to or leaving for some sort of test or meeting, this usually happens when I'm walking, I hear the music from Fist of the North Star. The part I'm talking about is when Ken is walking to Raoh's city meanwhile Rei is fighting Roah. I love that scene it's one of my favorites. I always hear it in my head is proabably since I'm walking someplace to take a test I think of it as a big tough guy I have to fight.

What are some common "personal mental background music "situations for yous?

Many times when I see an elderly gentleman walking slowly on the sidewalk, I hear "Yakity Sax" (the Benny Hill fast motion music) and smile.

If I see a "s**tbox" car driving down the road, I usually hum to myself, in banjo, dueling banjos.

There are many others.  So many that I think my life may have an actual soundtrack.

This is embarassing, but I often have the theme for "Green Acres" going through my head.  I never watch the show, but its there.

I suppose that is not as cool as the music from the Matrix, huh?

Hummm....kinda reminds me of a guy a friend worked with.
Loved to start wisteling tunes appropriate to what ever was happening.
"Green Acres" when a pig truck rolled by, "Rockey" when a sports blooper happened, that kinda thing.

"Godzilla's entrence theme" when ever i feel the need to feel....bad ass...

I love movie soundtracks, but I am ashamed to mention the fact that even I wouldn't buy the mental soundtrack for my life:

Two embarrasing, yet unexplainable tunes that go through my head are:

Stand By Me.  I find myself humming this one alot while I am alone at work [I work at a bakery]  To this day I don't know why.

When I go go karting or riding a motorbike [not that this happens often] I ALWAYS think of the 'that's what i like about you' song that was playing during the Richie Rich movie with Culkin.

Sure I have some good songs that I always think of, but these are the two that freak me out the most.

The James Bond theme used to play in my mind whenever I would accelerate on the highway and pass another car.  But that was when I was around 20 years old.

Now, when I drive fast, my mental background music is usually, FLIRTIN' WITH DISASTER by Molly Hatchet: "I'm travelin' down the road and I'm flirtin' with disaster . . . "

I have been to Las Vegas about 5 times.  Whenever I walk down the strip at night and I see all the lights flashing, Tom Jones singing IT'S NOT UNUSUAL seems to pop into my head.

When I used to have my Ninja, anytime I rode it I would have WFO from Overkill going through my head. Now that I have the older, slower bike, depending on my mood I will either have Mob Goes Wild by Clutch or Seasons In The Abyss from Slayer. When I was younger and more aggressive on the road in my car, I generally would have the chase music from Road Warrior in my head. My friend even went so far as to buy the soundtrack so he could actually listen to it in the car. We were odd back then. But the thing that really bothers me is when I hear a song that I don't like and it stays with me for days. I can't seem to get it out of my head and the more I dislike it, the longer it will hang on.

Odinn7:< When I was younger and more aggressive on the road in my car, I generally would have the chase music from Road Warrior in my head.>

I just found out this morning that when I'm out in the country I hear the Road Warrior Music as well. I guess I thought about what you said and here I am, stuck with Road Warrior out in the Country and I got "Reloaded" on the Highway.

i sing that showtune that clarks wife sung on the video in europeon vacation "the minute you walked in the joint, i could tell you were a man of distinction...a real big spender!" It's odd, i find myself humming it in the shower, in elevators. The madness won't end, and i haven't seen that movie in years. I'm scarred for life.....

I always think of that as the song Lynsey Bartilson performed a sultry dance routine to on the show Grounded for Life. :)

Whenever I am sitting in a waiting room, or waiting for something, or doing something that involves little motion, I always hear Herb Alpert's "Spanish Flea."  It is played numerous times in The Simpsons in similar situations.  Once my friend and I videotaped ourselves just sitting on the end of the bed doing nothing, expressionless, while Spanish Flea was playing.  It was quite funny.

When I would go and visit my sister in NY.  we would be walking at night and I would see the steam coming from the sewers and really if it had just rained.   I would start humming Thriller,  it just looked like one of the dance parts for some reason to me.

Whenever I am working or just doing general household chores I get songs from the Simpsons in my head, especially Nacho Man (which I used to sing out loud at work), See My Vest, and Homers little ditty I am so Smart. I find these songs help to while away otherwise boring jobs.
