When I first began comming to this message board I remember there being topics on some of the most disgusting and violent movies ever. Among those mentioned the most often were Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox, which I have finally decided to order on dvd. Most intriging in reserching these two films is the fact that real animal deats were shown multiple times throughout the movies. Interesting as well is the fact that while Cannibal Ferox can be boughton from stores such as Bestbuy and online retailers such as amazon.com, Cannibal Holocaust must be ordered from import sites based outside the United States. Further more interesting is that the very film that started the cannibal film subgenre of the 1970's and 1980's, Deep River Savages cannot be found anwhere on dvd and so far I have been unable to find a vhs copu as well (not that I would buy a vhs, but still). My question is why are retailers in the U.S. and U.K. so lax when it comes to buyiing Cannibal Ferox, but will refuse to distribute other titles in the same genre?
I've heard that Cannibal Holocaust was banned in several countries.
The director actually had to go to an Italian court to prove to a judge that his actors didn't die during the shoot....people thought it was that real.
I have Cannibal Holocaust not on DVD but on my computer.
The only way I could get it was to either download it or pay $50+ on E-bay...screw that!
I downloaded it.
I think Best Buy probably got wind of how nasty a film it was and decided they weren't going to carry it.
this wasnt banned in my country, as far as i can remember, and i remeber that it was very easy to pick up this two movies at the video store, anyway cannibal holocaust was a very big scandal, some serious magacines they assured that it was a real documentary, and i think, maybe im wrong, that it was released on theaters, anyway, it was available on the video store, easy to pick up.

Ash, where'd you download it? Was it free? I'm still buying the dvd of the film, but I'd still be interested in a download.
I have an old copy of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST on VHS. I bought it about 15 years ago from a local guy who had a company called "Fright Video." He used to get a lot of obscure horror, gore, exploitation, etc., movies (mostly imports with foreign subtitles) and duplicate them for customers. I don't think he is in business anymore.
I have CANNIBAL FEROX on DVD. I saw it in the theater back in the 1980s under the title MAKE THEM DIE SLOWLY. I prefer this movie over CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST.
I think of them as part of the cannibal trilogy. Eaten Alive isn't that the other one. I watched all of them on Laser Disc!!! The laser disc looks awsome and it has an interview at the end, plus a PICTURE (not footage) of the pirahna scene. I'm not a big horror guy, but cannibal holocaust is really one of the best movies I think I've ever seen, just for the overall force of it.

It's listed on Roberts Hard to Find Videos;
Deep River Savages VHS $54.95 (http://www.robertsvideos.com/product.php3?invid=16870&ref=/browse.php3)
I bought my copy of Cannibal Holocaust here:

It is said there are versions with better image quality, but I chose this one because of the separated soundtrack.
I can't tell you about Ferox - as it is much worse than Holocaust, I didn't feel like I have to have that on DVD.
Daniel, if you want to download it and you have bittorrent, here's a link, just copy/paste.
http://66.90.75.92/suprnova//torrents/1856/[MRT]%20Cannibal%20Holocaust%20(MKV%20VF+VO%20by%20BenitO].torrent
All I did was go to http://www.suprnova.org and did a search for "cannibal", if the link didn't work.
Me and my friends rented Cannibal Ferox, it was pretty bad.
I think I downloaded Cannibal Holocaust and skimmed through it. There's some pretty f**ked up scenes in that movie. Dunno if I deleted it or not after that, I'll have to check...
