Title: Can anyone help?
Post by: Tom on July 02, 2004, 10:37:34 AM
I've been pulling my hair out trying to remember the name of a terrible film I saw years ago.

The plot: A scientist creates a slug creature, which is designed to make everyone only interested in primal instincts - eat, drink, sex - and therefore create the perfect society (of course).  It was really strange.  Some of it was set in a hotel, I think - I remember a scene with an old woman getting one of the slug things in her bath, and another where this man was infected and beating his wife up, as you do.

Has anyone got any ideas?  I've been through every bad movie database I can find, but can't seem to find any names that ring a bell.

Thanks,
Tom

Could it possibly be David Cronenberg's "Shivers"?  Sounds like the right film to me.

yes im sure its that one, but they were only interested about sex, not drinks or food, as far i can remember, they became in some sort of zombies.

Thanks loads, that's the one!  I never realised it was David Cronenberg, it seemed too low-budget.  Suppose you've got so start somewhere.  I remember the film switching confusingly from scene to scene with no real idea where it was going, but I remember thinking it was just about bad enough to be good.

Thanks again!

Yeah, believe it or not Cronenberg got money from the Canadian government to make it! Talk about a liberal country hehe. I've always liked Shivers though, I look at it as a good premise for the many other themes Cronenberg went on to tackle in his later films.
