So what is everybodies favourite slasher series, I'm kind of going through the process of seeing all of the 3 major titles, Friday the 13th, Haloween and Nightmare on elm street, just so I can say I've seen them all. Trouble is I dont find any of them that fantastic, I most recently watched friday 13th part 3 and found it really tedious to watch. Does the series improve? What movies are better than the 3 I just mentioned?
I love the Friday 13th series of films. Jason is by far my favorite slasher. The dude just kick ass. F13 Part 3 is a special one in that it was originally in 3D. This is quite evident in the snake scene towards the beginning of the film and the harpoon scene. Also, Part 4 rules all. Some of the best all around FX from Savini.
As for Halloween, I didn't care much for the series. I have seen all of the films and they seem pretty well......tame compared to the other slasher films.
I'm not a big Freddy fan either. I own the original Nightmare On Elm Street on DVD and have seen Part 2 which was suprisingly good. Part 3 - Dream Warriors is decent as well, but the rest of the series is trash.
I like the Halloween series. My two favorites of the series are Haloween 1 and H20 I know most people did not like this one. But it was very different with Jamie Lee, just really kicking his ass throught most of the movie. and the part where he lowers himself from the rafters was great!
The first "Psycho" movie is pretty damn good.
I would definatly agree, I kind of liked the remake. Vince Vaugn did a pretty good job as Norman.
Freddy Vs. Jason was good if you just wanted plenty of blood with a good laugh.
The first Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a classic, and the second one is a lot of fun, too, so long as you don't expect a horror classic (come on, it's got Dennis frickin' Hopper as a psychotic Texas ranger with two chainsaws in holsters!!)
I'll admit, I loved the first texas chainsaw massacre, it had a sort of in your face style, like when you first see leatherface, he just pops up and theres violence. The remake I found was too much like a music video.
As for Haloween, I've seen a few of them, but I cant remeber which ones, except for the most recent one where its an internet broadcast reality show, I really hated it.
Theres another series called SleepAway camp (Or something like that), Is that any good?
The Sleepaway Camp movies are kind of fun. Like with the Friday the Thirteenth series, the first one doesn't have much to do with the rest (in the first Friday 13th, Jason is dead; it is his mother who is committing the murders. Jason doesn't start his sprees until the second movie). In the first Sleepaway Camp, we meet the characters and learn much about the underlying psychology of the director/writer (he was apparently dealing poorly with his homosexual urges, channelling them into strange images on film. This is not a "gay bash," but there are many blatantly homosexual themes in the first movie). The second and third movies (this is as far as I've watched; there are two more, made in 2002 and 2004, that I haven't seen) are more straight (no pun intended) slasher movies, with Angela returning and wreaking some fun havoc among the typical sex-starved teenagers. What makes these movies fun is Angela's matter-of-factness about killing; she kills because, well, someone has to do it; these teenagers are bad and need killing. Her quips are fun, too.
i acually have the sleepaway boxset and as far as i know there was no movie in 2002. they tried to make one but failed ( the footage is in the bow set) and five is still being made
The best movie in the Friday series has to be Part 6 - Jason Lives, although it only makes sense if you've seen 4 and 5. This is where the series hit it's peak, with more action, more creative killings, more interesting characters, bigger budget, and kick-ass Alice Cooper music. It's also the first of the undead Jason movies. The series declined in the three films that followed, but I think it redeemed itself with the action-packed, and surprisingly tongue-in-cheek Jason X. Part 6 is still the best, however.
Jason X was pretty funny, I liked it when they set up the hologram of the two girls to fool him "do you like pre-marital sex? We love pre-marital sex"
I love the nightmare on elm street movies... c'mon you gotta love freddy! corny one liners and blood.... does it get any better than that???? maybe i have a unique sense of humor... cuz i think he's funny as hell!
Freddy was fun, but i have to agree with the poster who said that the series went downhill after part 3.
yeah... but i did enjoy New Nightmare..... hollywood making fun of itself.. gotta love that!
