Who else watched the opener? I think it has some possibilities.
Pilot episode usually aren't the best because they seem so contrived. I guess introducing the characters always kinda puts the story in the back seat. This one was pretty good though.
I found it interesting that Robert Patrick was in such throw away part. I knew for a long time that he was in the pilot , but not the series, though I figured he would have a bigger part. I guess he needed a paycheck.
I think I could grow to like Joe Flanigan, I also liked Dr. Beckett, the Scottish M.D.
I hated the casting in it.
Other than that it was ok.
I liked it. The main character is rather likable.
I thought it was a decent pilot. Im sure the series will get better as it goes along just give it time.
I liked it, although I spotted something minor in the pilot that bugged me. When they're preparing to leave and you hear Dr. Weir saying goodbye to her boyfriend, the guy playing him is the same guy who prominently guest starred on three episodes of Stargate playing an alien.
I know it's a minor point and that guest stars sometimes play more than one character on a show, but this guy (Garwin Sanford) was a major character in at least three episodes of Stagate. They have to have known that the fans would instantly recognize him.
Other than that, I thought it was basically like Stargate only with different characters.
I thought it was about as good as a Stargate episode could get, when you don't have MacGyver as a main character... O'Neill ("two L's" as he would say, while holding up 3 fingers) gives the SG-1 show so much life, i don't know if Atlantis will be able to live up to it.
But I liked it so far, and I like that it isn't a replacement show (yet) because they are far away, and without communication. Everything all new, but with the same humor. I hope Atlantis does well, and Sci-Fi keeps SG-1 around.

I've heard that this is the last season for Stargate SG-1.
I wasn't all that impressed with the enemies. The wraiths seem kind of weak. Hopefully the writers will find a way to make them more menacing.
I believe that it would not be a good idea to intruduce a evil character that is unbeatable right at the beginning of the series. Maybe since there will be more of them now they will bring out some type of technology that surpasses anything we have seen from them so far? Not clue, but overall I think it has some good possibilities.
To be honest - I had low expectations and it barely met them.
I suppose that we should probably be somewhat lenient because, yes - it'll always be contrived setting a show up but I think that this was scrapping the barrel. "Puddle-jumper"? Please, that was painful and having the main character as having the gene... fair enough but if he's the *only* person who can use the ship to get home, isn't it just about the stupidest thing possible for him to be running around in the line of fire?
I think that casting was pretty poor... and the Wraith - assuming they're the guys who took down the Ancients - are a weak enemy (hard to kill? I think not) because they just come off as cheap Gould clones to me.
It'll be hard for the show to step from SG-1s shadow.
Richard Dean Anderson has only been working about 3 days a week in the last season and this one because he commutes between LA and Vancouver to be with his 5 year old daughter. That's why he got the promotion, his part in the show will be about like Hammonds now except he will go off world a little more often. He talks like he would not come back for a ninth season.
I think Atlantis will succeed. Same guys are producing it , so it should be pretty good with time.
By the way the place where we saw the Wraith in the pilot was actually their mothership that had been on the planet so long a forest was growing on top of it.
If you like Stargate SG-1 (I certainly do, it is probably the best scifi series right now) you can keep up with it here: Gateworld (http://www.gateworld.net)

I thought season 8 was the last?
Who here saw that cartoon with the b***hin' opening theme? "Oh, we go through magic doorways/ that all lead to different planets/ every week we learn a lesson/ about teamwork, or not being prejudiced..."
