Well folks I finally caught this last night, and I must say I was really impressed. The Bourne Identity worked as a decent action movie but all the weak points in the film are definitely strengthened in this one. Better character development, better plot, even better action sequences. My only complaint was that some of the editing at times, particularly with the car chase scenes, seemed a little too choppy. But they were nice and intense.
I liked how the character of Bourne is a lot more fleshed out, we see him a lot more as a volatile human being, and a lot of secrets from his past are exposed.
I got a kick out of Brian Cox's performance too! I could tell he had a lot of fun playing the soul-less, bureaucrat. I even chuckled at some of his dialogue, there's just something very charismatic about an intelligent, cunning, suit-wielding villain.
Overall I had a great time with it, I recommend it.

I thought it was fabulous, as did my husband. One thing we disagreed on was the camera work- I thought it was alright, but it gave my husband a migraine, so he wasn't too fond of it.
The movie itself was excellent, though, and I can't wait for the third one!
yeah i agree, it did get too jarring at times. and the editing with some scenes! i felt like i was on meth watching it. but i guess that's the way films are made nowadays, well particularly mainstream ones in the US.
Who gave the heroin addict going through withdrawls the handheld shaky cam? Even during moments of calm when everyone was simply sitting down that camera was shaking all over the place. The action scenes i couldn't even tell who's ass was getting kicked until it was over it was just a big blur.
Honestly - that aspect HURT the film.
i agree, but i guess that's the style they were going for. but i still feel it was way better than the first one, the first film portrayed the characters as mindless robots that were on the screen just to propell the next action sequence. atleast this film went more into the character Bourne's past, which i enjoyed.
but it still puzzles me, how did Bourne become an assasin? did he used to work in counter-insurgency, was he in the military, did the company like him just because he had a degree in physics? i don't think they've explained that yet.

The car chase scene through the tunnel was awsome btw...very few car chase sequences in movies feel and look plausable, and REAL. I think shaky cam would have been fine through actions scenes but it was NOT the style that should have held consistant through the entirety of the film. I've seen handheld camera shots work in still scenes, but this was absolutely distracting and made me crazy
I hate that 'hand held skay cam' stunt that filmakers lke to use. The human eye and human brain account for movement to keep focus and to keep the field of view still and sensible. "Bobble-Head Cam" is not my idea of a good way to view a movie
