SHAOLIN TEMPLE AGAINST LAMA (1980) - Watched this Kung Fu film today. Plenty of old style Kung Fu action. A lot of blood being spit up. Most notably the ear removal with blood spraying (gushing) out. The movie also seemed to be shot in India along the Ganges and the temple area's with real footage of the main character walking amongst real Buddhist monks. You have to love the action with young athletic martial artist dressed in grey beards and flowing robes.

LOL
Scott, I can't think of a more hilarious title for a film than this. Fantastic!
I see that you're on a Kung Fu thing at the moment. Was wondering if you have caught the Kung Fu documentary that IFC has been showing over the past month or so. It's great if you have a chance to check it out.
I'll keep a look out for it Skaboi. The best Martial Arts documentaries that I have seen are DEADLY CHINA DOLLS and THE DEADLIEST ART.
I have a film called "Shaolin vs. Manchu", I'm trying figure if these are the same film. IMDB is not much help. My title hasn't turned up listed for anything, even as an alternate title. Plus doing a search for "Shaolin vs. Manchu" gets TONS of results for kung fu movies and variations on all the Dr. Fu Manchu films and serials.
My film is one of those Brentwood cheap DVDs that I got when the local Wherehouse Music stores were closing. Scott, is "Shaolin Temple Against Lama" one of that batch of kung fu VHS movies you said you picked up recently, or did you see it elsewhere?
Yes, it's one that I pick up recently on VHS for $2.99 and it would be a keeper if I had it on DVD.
If you can find the directors name on the Brentwood copy you might be able to match it. This one is directed by William Chang and starring Alan Hsu, Lucifer Lee, Alexander Lou, and William Yen. The other title that it goes by are Shaolin vs Lama.
I saw this movie many years ago. I liked it,. It had a nice flow to it that made it enjoyable to watch. Good story. Wish I owned a copy.
Scott H
(the other Scott)
Yep, ScottH it's a more entertaining style than the more recent ones. Jet Li is good, but I like the ones from the 70's.
They seem to be different films upon further examination. None of the names I got from the trailer and film credits match with your film, and IMDB gave nothing useful when I ran them through it, just like the title. I think the names maybe made up, the title cards give the director's name as "Marloon Lee" but the trailer's voiceover announcer says it is "Lee (or Li) Chun Chun". Then again how well can I trust a film whose trailer includes phrases like "Excellentent Plot" and "New Film/New Version".
