i was watching some of this on DVD last night, it's one of Blue Underground's, cult, re-releases, and one of George Romero's earlier films, and i don't know what it is about this film: but i like it.
i think i might be crazy and just enjoy films about society falling apart. a lot of people have noted the film's social commentary in how the military people treat the civilians as symbolic of our involvement in Vietnam.
anyone else out there seen this? opinions? tomatoes to throw at me?
I have this DVD too, and I like it a lot. I won't throw any tomatoes at you.
I'm not a fan of Romero's flicks at all (in a serious way... but as far as bad movies go, they're great). I think he's too simple, and the dialog he writes is too bland.
Go ahead, you can throw your food at me now.
But nonetheless, I've wanted to see "The Crazies" for a long time now. I just haven't ever had the chance to pick it up anywhere for a reasonable price.
Saw it as a child. It never plays on TV. Remember people being taken away. Wish I could see it again without buying the DVD.
Scott: "Wish I could see it again without buying the DVD."
I wish I could see a lot of movies without having to buy the DVD's. :)
you might want to check out Netflix, they carry a lot of old cult films surprisingly.
So true. : ) I'm cheap............

Was okay. Wasn't too into it, but it wasn't outstandingly bad. I was expecting more, though, and a lot of it made me still want more. The two leads, the hero and his friend, were great in their roles, but it seems everybody else was just kinda there.
Romero's strongpoint is taking human faults (ego, racism, greed, etc.) and showing how they completely kill us when all goes to hell, but The Crazies is sorta bland at this. If you're looking for a movie about a virus that turns people into lunatics, 28 Days Later is better, as it's heavily based on The Crazies and Dawn.
... and Omega Man, and Day Of The Triffids, and Resident Evil...
