Title: Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969)
Post by: Scott on September 01, 2004, 04:02:02 PM
FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED (1969) Starring Peter Cushing as Dr. Frankenstein. This film is possible one of the best Hammer films on Frankenstein. It kept my attention all the way through with story and overall style. The removal of the brain and all the cutting, drilling, and poking. It's quite the cranial cut and you'll also like the water main break under the garden scene. Well done.

I agree with everything the previous poster said. Though, at that time I saw it, it was more to see actor Simon Ward , who played Dr. Holst in the film. I was at that time and still am a fan of his career. Though, it looks like, at this time, that his daughter Sophie has taken over the acting chores from her father.

I would also recommend Revenge of Frankenstein ( 1958 ),
where a brilliant Cushing portrays evil as a totally indifferent and calculating scientific mind.

Bloody brilliant!

The above film (1958) was one of the main reasons for my understanding the potential and grandeur of SF. Plus a tour de force by Cushing (lead), Fisher(dir.) and by Hammer Films in general (great, atmospheric production).

I hope I made sense

I saw this one at the movie store the other day and almost picked it up, but I didn't have any money on me, so now I'll have to go back and get it!

I love all of the Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee horror movies.  One of the more unusual Frankenstein movies starring Cushing is FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN.  If you haven't seen it, check it out!

Been a while since I've seen it, but I really liked this one, especially the ending, very simple but clever trap there. Plus I admire Hammer for making DR. Frankenstein the recurring character and focus of their Frankenstein films rather than just copying Universal and bringing back their version of his original Monster everytime.
