Title: Movies that inspired you to do stupid things
Post by: loyal1 on September 15, 2004, 11:27:38 PM
Yeah, you know what I am talking about.  Let me give you some clues: oija boards, seances, bloody mary, ghost hunting, light as a feather stiff as a board.  The list goes on.  In witchboard I learned that you must NEVER use the ouija board alone or we could become possessed like the little girl from the exorcist.

But there was one time I remember that the anthology Freddy's Nightmares got my friend and I at the time to try and get into one another's dreams.  Yup, we laid there like idiots for about 20 minutes trying hard to fall asleep.  Needless to say it didn't work.

However, I DO have some cool true ghost stories.  Man we have ghost stories passed down in our family.  It seems each generation has had their share of experiences.  No one use to believe me until my mother told them the same stories....even about our old house.

Anyone else do stupid things that was inspired by a movie or series?

I went around my neighbourhood with a lawnmower trying to kill zombies, but instead, brutally 'trimmed' a few pedestrians...

It was later found out the media was to blame...

Um, I've done plenty of stupid things, but none really inspired by movies.  I can imagine alot of jackass type answers here.  Come on, who has stapled bits of their body to other bits, which really shouldn't be stapled in the first place?

hey I know people that copied some things from movies...and doesn't have to be from a horror movie persay.  I remember in a game of truth or dare, one guy confessed to copying "Buffalo Bill" in that infamous seen where he tucks his you know what and looked in a full legnth mirror.

There are lots of stupid things...what about something from dazed and confused or Jack ass...I mean, the list can go on

I donned a Superman cape & shirt when I was 8 or 9 and jumped out of my neighbor's tree into the deep end of their swimming pool.

It was at least a 15-20 foot drop.

That is just too cool.  Could've broke your neck, but you didn't and have a great story to tell (just make sure you don't tell your kids about it until they are of a logical age) lol

I drove through the wasteland in my Australian Falcon in search of gasoline and met up with not only a group of people living in a refinery, but also a group of vermin trying to get their gas. Wait a minute, that wasn't me...

I don't recall that I ever tried to copy anything out of a movie but I suspect that my first wife must have been trying to live out Debbie Does Dallas or some kind of porn along those lines.

odinn, that story about your first wife, whilst image wise is quite disturbing, isn't probably quite right for this post, unless living out Debbie Does Dallas with you is classed as a stupid thing!

Sorry, but it was just sitting there, waiting to be used...

Dean,
I never said she was trying to live it out with me. I think if you read into it a little, you will understand what I was getting at.

Ah yes, the stooges. Gave my dad a poke in the eye imitating them as wee lad. That was when it was first explained to me that most of the violence was fake.

Ironically, when I got older, I learned that most of the smacking around was real. Apparently, Larry had a hell of a callous on the side of his face.

I tried tampering in God's domain where Man was not meant to go!!!

OK I really didn't, my practical sciencej ust doesn't go that far.  I had a buddy who used to go cloudbusting like in the "Fisher King".  Details are sketchy, and I never had enough beer in me to go along.  Don't kill me Dave, please.

About the closest I have to this is once while playing softball at a family get together, as I was running to first base I began to do the screaming charge like Han Solo charging at the Stormtroopers in "Star Wars". It worked, the kid playing first base freaked, ran away from me, and missed the ball when it was thrown to him.

But most stupid things I do are self-motivated, so I can't even blame them on the media, even if I wanted to.

I think after watching Goldeneye I wanted to try bungee jumping. Except it wasn't with the newest equipment while falling from a selected area. Instead it would have been: A weak rope tied around my ankle and jumping off from the top bunk of the bunk bed. I was ten but my brother and his friends talked me out of it.

This subject has actually been discussed in a couple previous threads on this board;

Ghosts and Legends (http://www.badmovies.org/bbs/read.php?f=2&i=18450&t=18387)
True Horror stories (http://www.badmovies.org/bbs/read.php?f=2&i=44427&t=44229)

Well gee, hasn't every guy? Hey, why is everyone looking at me like that? :)

Well, there was that time I put on my old scout uniform and stood out in the rain hoping to picked up by a beautiful woman driving a classic Jag XKE, I didn't catch a ride, but I did catch a cold. No . . .

Anything that  I might have done or thought about doing that was stupid, cannot be described to seeing it in the movies. Though, probably the stupidest thing I have ever thought of doing was jumping out of the third floor window of the apartment house in which we lived, at that time, without an umbrella, just to see what would happen. This was while I was in grade school. Fortunately, I never carried it our, or I might not be here today.

Title: Highlander!
Post by: Andrew on September 17, 2004, 12:07:34 PM
Ours was definitely "Highlander."  We would take wiffle ball bats and wrap most of them with two or three layers of black electrical tape.  The handles were wrapped with twine to give a good grip.  One of our group actually made a hilt for his, a wooden dowel crosspiece with a bit of PVC to stiffen where it went through the bat.

Anyway, we all had long trenchcoats and we would declare when "Highlander" was to begin.  Then, you went everywhere with your sword.  If you saw another immortal you attacked and fought until one was "killed."  Ever been thwacked with a wiffle ball bat wrapped in tape?  It hurts.

We also used to joust with those bats, on our bicycles.   We did a lot of things that resulted in pain, come to think of it.  Dirt clod fights, walnut fights, wiffle bat sword battles, wrestling (with the goal of pushing the other person into a huge holly tree), etc.

I've never done anything stupid but watched other people do stuff stupid. the top 3 best

3)After Watching "the craft" my cousins tried to play light as a feather stiff as a board for about 2 hours before they finally gave up
2) After watching "Fight Club" a few of my friends started their own till they realized 'this hurts...alot'
Alright now those 2 are typical this one is my favorite by a long shot
1) After seeing Cannibal the Musical my friends built a snowman the next winter just to beat it with a pickaxe they found in the shed.

movies make you do really stupid things...you know it won't work but you still try.

I started to run out in a typhoon with an umbrella in an homage to mary popppins. Had i lept off the roof in high winds it actually might have worked..lol

After seeing the really cheap bad sheila queen of the jungle riding on a zebra movie i tried to talk to my cat by pinching my forehead. Yeah i'm more ashamed by that one because i was old enough to know better.

I said candyman in the mirror (mostly cause i like a good dare)

After seeing goonies me and some friends liked the sliding down the tunnel part looked fun, and being summer we went to some houses being constructed and stole large wooden boards. there was a hill (more of a drop-off) that was dangerously steep and rocky with dirt..not smooth at all. Why this seemed like a good idea i don'tk now but we sat on those boards and spent all afternoon sliding down this steep hill which ended up in the street. A few times we went flying off of the boards and tumbling down. I went home with my jeans completely torn and bleeding and had a good yelling at. But i had fun ;-)
