I'm hoping to watch at least one of the movies tonight and maybe the special features DVD as well. I'll be posting my opinions (as I'm sure many other people will do) within the next day or so . . .

Please do post your thoughts Burgo. This one has been on my "to buy" list for a while now, yet my wife feels it's superfluous.
Which I can only reply:
"But it's STTAAARRR WWWWAAARRRSSS!"
Hopefully my whining will break her down soon.
I went into a local video game shop yesterday (9-17-04) and they had the new Star Wars DVD playing on one of their televisions.
Apparently they had got ahold of the box set somehow before it's official release..
I watched the entire "Assault on the Death Star" scene from the end of Episode 4 along with probably 5 or 6 other customers that were there and WOW! What an improvement in the image!
It was great to see how sharp and crystal clear Star Wars was on DVD.
It looks fantastic!
ASH:
I ordered mine from DeepDiscount DVD. I think that mail order companies are allowed to ship them a few days early so that their customers will get them around the same time that they are available in stores. Otherwise, stores would have a tremendous competitive advantage because most people would buy them in the store on the release date rather than waiting several additional days for shipping. Most times when I order new releases on line, they magically show up in my mailbox on the exact day of release. However, sometimes it's a day or so earlier or later.
Well, the audio and video quality on the first disc are TREMENDOUS. I had the entire original trilogy on VHS, but the DVD quality blows it away. I just wish Lucas would also release his original cuts of each film (for old time's sake). I'm not a huge STAR WARS fan, but this boxed set should be in everyone's collection. By the way, the box itself is pretty cheesy and flimsy. Not good for storing the DVDs. I plan to take them out of the box and store them on my shelves individually.

I did notice how flimsy the box was.
At that store, they had it sitting on top of the TV and I took it off and examined it.
You're right....I wouldn't use it either.
