Title: Three Christopher Lee films?
Post by: Scott on October 06, 2004, 12:51:46 AM
There are 3 Christopher Lee Dracula films that I can hardly tell apart. Can you tell them apart? And which is the better of the 3?

The Scars of Dracula
Taste the Blood of Dracula
Dracula Has Risen from his Grave

Well, can't tell them apart myself, but that's probably because I have never seen them :) , or at least, not recently.

From what I can remember of the Hammer Dracula films (not much) the early ones are usually much better considered than the later ones, so probably the earliest one on your list is the best one.

I rank them as follows:

1. Dracula has Risen from the Grave
2. Taste the Blood of Dracula
3. Scars of Dracula

I can tell them apart with just a few quick comments:

1. Dracula has Risen from the Grave - This is one of the better "traditional" style vampire movies: small village, castle on top of the hill, many religious references.  The theme of faith in God is particularly strong in this one.

2. Taste the Blood of Dracula - This probably has the most unusual plot of all the Christopher Lee/Dracula movies.  A group of thrill-seeking men get involved with Dracula.  Unfortunately, Dracula doesn't get much time on screen until near the end.

3. Scars of Dracula - Pretty bad.  Includes some of the worst bat-on-a-wire special effects in the history of horror movies.

I had #1 & #2 above on VHS, but I sold them on Ebay.  Currently, I have the following Chistopher Lee/Dracula movies on DVD:

* Scars of Dracula
* Horror of Dracula (the first in the series, and one of the best)
* The Satanic Rites of Dracula (pretty bloody and fast-paced, with a very 1970s look to it)

I wish someone would release DVDs of all of the Hammer horror movies that came out in the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Thanks for the info Burgomaster.... I've seen a couple of them but wasn't sure which of the three. SCARS OF DRACULA is coming on AMC later this month and I guess I better take a look at it anyway since it's free. One of the three was tremendously boring. Still can tell which on it was. They spend alot of time on roof tops and basements in the one I didn't like.

I liked SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA and of course THE HORROR OF DRACULA. One of my favorite Christopher Lee films that  is DRACULA:  A.D. 72.
