Title: Any good Lost World (1925) dvds out there?
Post by: daveblackeye15 on October 19, 2004, 06:58:34 PM
Ever since I was very young I've watched this movie called "More Dinosaures". It had this guy (David) go hunting for dinosaures because his boss/friend ,Gary, told him to (okay I'll have to tell the office that I'll be needing a few days off). David doesn't go hunting for Dinosaures ala Crocodile Hunter Style or Lost World (1999) style, he just walks around places ,sometimes forests and sometimes a city for information on Dinsaures. And sometimes Gary gives us information on Dinosaurse as well (at least he's not a complete lazy bum) And there some aniamted clips and a scene from a claymation Dinosauce short (I have that actually video at my gandma's house). I just watched it a few days ago and surprising I wasn't embarrased watching it (even though it's obviously more of a kids video)

Anyway to the point (FINALLY!)

One scene they showed some clips from the original Lost World, it includes seeing a Brontosaures (not real I know but that's what they called it back then) then a T-rex fighting with a duck billed dino, the T-rex wins (brief battle but still interesting) Then the T-Rex goes over to the human's campsite but is quickly fought off and retreats. Last part is the Brontosaures rampaging around the city and escapes. Woo, the T-rex really scared me as a kid and still it makes me a little nervous to this day, during the clip they had added some neat music. Anyway I've always been obsessed with seeing ths movie and I've heard it's been released on DVD. I heard one version had many scenes missing and another that was intact very nicely.

Could some one tell me the best DVD for the Lost World?

This is going to sound bad, I know, but cheap cheap cheap-ass Alpha Video has as good a DVD of this as you're going to get anywhere else.
They also have DVD's of silent Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Thief of Bagdhad, Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc., that for around $5 a pop are worth every penny, not that I'm a cheapskate.
I watch my Lost World DVD a lot, and it holds up fine.  Makes you wish they'd done more with the Wallace Beery "Dr. Challenger" character.

Thanks better Johnson, choose the movie seem to jump around? I heard that one point a guy was watching the movie and the characters were going through a jungle then *zip!* they're trapped in a cave. Does anything like that happen on your print?

The only version to get of THE LOST WORLD is Image Entertainment's restored version.

Most DVDs are the hacked up 60 minute version that are missing large chunks of the story.  The restored version fills in those gaps with footage from a variety of sources including a print found in (I believe) the Czech Republic and clips that were only extant in an elementary educational film on dinosaurs.  The restored version runs 93 and comes with a passel of features.  Definitely worth a few bucks more to get the movie the way it was intended to be seen.

So, yeah I know this is a bit late, but The Lost World is on TCM right now. Helpful info? Probably not.
